We have officially launched our end-of-year fundraising campaign. From November 1st to December 31st, we aim to raise $10,000 to support our school and community programs, and we need your help to get there. Why donate to Green Calgary? Protecting our environment, protects our children, communities, and the future of our loved ones. Green Calgary is dedicated to securing a better tomorrow by mobilizing citizens in the fight against climate change. We need your financial support to continue building climate-resilient communities. What does your donation do? 1. Ensures free environmental education for schools to combat climate anxiety and inaction among youth. 2. Provides food security and food waste reduction resources to low-income and immigrant families. 3. Supports energy efficiency education to help reduce our community’s carbon footprint. 4. Strengthens water conservation efforts to address Calgary's growing drought conditions. Donate today: https://buff.ly/4hD6oJq

Can you help? Just seven days during which we can double your donation. We're raising money to support our citizen scientists. From riverfly surveying to outfall safari we want to empower people to care for their local stretch of the River Aire. https://lnkd.in/eBuYDP_i Our rivers tell a story. By surveying the bugs found within them each month our volunteers help stop polluters. Sewage and industrial spills shouldn't be harming our rivers but it takes evidence to make them stop. By training riverfly monitors we can press the Environment Agency and polluters to make a change. Just £50 will train a pollution spotter to walk their local beck. £200 will equip a pair of riverfly monitors to monitor a vulnerable stretch of river month after month. Every donation you make between 18-25 April will be matched by the Big Give. One donation, twice the impact. #BigGive #BigGive2024 #doubleyourdonation #doubleyourimpact

The government claims that 90% of the revenue from the carbon tax is rebated, but they don't talk about the impact on non-profits like schools, municipalities and charities. There are no rebates for them, but the costs are high. The Calgary Food Bank says they pay up to $4,000 A MONTH in carbon tax on their energy bill for just one distribution centre, not including fuel tax for their trucks. The plastics ban is also hurting as they now must purchase reusable bags - the cost has escalated from $3,000 to as much as $70,000 per year. They aren't even legally allowed to use Co-op's compostable bags. (I understand they may soon be accepting clean surplus canvas bags, in good repair, from donors). The Calgary Food Bank is feeding 700 families a day because the cost of living and cost of food has risen so sharply. The federal government not only contributed to this hardship, but is intent on making that service harder and more expensive to deliver. Please donate if you are able: https://lnkd.in/gzekHBDY #calgarycentre #yyccentre #cdnpoli #foodbank #carbontax #plasticsban

Living by the sea has been truly inspirational for me. Spending hours on the water rowing, sailing, and walking along the coastline has been a source of joy and motivation. Recently, starting the October Dip a day challenge has shed light on the state of our waters. It's clear that action is needed from all of us now more than ever. We all have the power to make a difference. Whether it's through donations, picking up and clearing away garbage, or being mindful of what we put down our drains, each small action contributes to a cleaner environment. This is a call to action - let's all do something to protect our waters. Together, we can create a positive impact. #EnvironmentalAction #ProtectOurWaters

Black Friday is a completely bizarre concept to me. On the one hand, it's an opportunity for products that are over hyped and way over priced to become affordable for the many.. especially in the sporting industry. But this then highlights the insane mark up and profits these companies are making generally if they are able to offer these ridiculous discounts. I'm an ambassador for a brand who have asked ambassadors to promote Black Friday sales and I just can't buy into it. However, the initiative here from Finisterre is something I could really buy into. There has to be a way to strip back the b****cks and offer sustainable and meaningful actions to days such as Black Friday, or Cyber Monday or whatever other marketing ploy there is. We're way past fast fashion, crazy discounts, marketing ploys that don't add benefit to any of us, we need to be better, chapeau Finisterre.
For four years, we've resisted the Black Friday markdown frenzy, choosing instead to focus on creating a positive impact for our oceans and communities. 🌊 Thanks to your support, we’ve donated over £35,000 to initiatives like adapting wetsuits, teaching children to swim, and making the ocean accessible to historically excluded groups. This year, we're proud to partner with Surfers Against Sewage and The Surfrider Foundation, two organizations leading the charge in ocean conservation. 🌎 From Friday to midnight Tuesday, we’ll donate £2/$2.50 for every order placed to support their incredible work. Together, we can help protect our oceans for generations to come. #OceanConservation #BlueFriday #Finisterre

Policies that encourage surplus food redistribution, like donating to food banks, can significantly streamline national efforts to tackle food loss and waste.
