Meet Satnam Singh, Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Manager at Cleveland Police, one of the 16 male advocates standing with us to challenge violence against women and girls. 💙 "Today I want to speak about this ribbon the White Ribbon which represents ‘a promise never to remain silent about male violence against women and girls . The White Ribbon Day is held on the 25th of November, this is annually recognised as the day that men show their commitment to ending violence against women and girls. For this year the theme is ‘It Starts with Men‘, we must address the attitudes and behaviours that contributes violence against women and encourage men to hold themselves accountable. The aim is to affect positive changes in behaviours to transform harmful cultures and achieve gender equality. If you visit whiteribbon.org.uk there are downloadable resources that you can use to raise awareness and educate the men around you both in the workplace and at home with your friends and family. The White Ribbon is about supporting individuals and organisations to intervene with harmful attitudes, behaviours and focus on positive cultural change." Violence against women and girls affects us all. By speaking out and taking action, we can create safe, strong and confident communities. #16DaysOfActivism #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #NoExcuse #StandingTogether

Day 1 of 16 Days of Activism Against GBV🧡 As a passionate young female leader dedicated to addressing issues impacting women, today holds significant meaning for me. The observance of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) each year is a powerful reminder of our collective commitment to supporting women and girls worldwide. I am deeply committed to empowering women and working towards sustainable, progressive solutions for gender equality. In line with my dedication to this cause, I made the symbolic decision to cut my hair today, standing in solidarity with survivors of GBV, those currently facing violence, and all those working to end it. Gender-based violence is real, and it causes immense trauma, stripping women of their sense of belonging and identity. Addressing this issue is a shared responsibility—one that impacts all women, everywhere. Together, we can create change. #16daysofactivismagainstgbv #endgbv #notogbv

Every 10 minutes in 2023, a woman was intentionally killed by a partner or family member. As you sit at your dinner table tonight, take a moment to remember those women who can no longer share such moments. They lost their lives to the cruel actions of someone they likely trusted the most. The crisis of gender-based violence is urgent and real. There is #NoExcuse for violence against women and girls. 1 in 3 women experience violence in their lifetime. This Monday, we observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a crucial day dedicated to raising awareness about a global issue affecting millions. Violence against women transcends gender boundaries, impacting us all, and we each hold the power to prevent it by rejecting passivity, refusing to be bystanders. It is incumbent upon each of us to contribute to the creation of safe environments, extend support to those in need, and confront behaviors or systems that perpetuate harm. Let us persist in our advocacy for gender equality and safety for every woman. I urge everyone to take time for introspection, engage in dialogue, and seek ways to enact positive change. For those seeking further information, this resource serves as a valuable starting point. Together, we can foster a culture that denounces violence and upholds respect as the standard. Let's work collectively towards a world where violence has no place and respect is the prevailing norm.

DAY 17 OF ACTION! As we strive for a more equitable world, it's imperative to acknowledge the often-overlooked reality of male survivors of violence and abuse. The harsh truth is that if we don't support male survivors, we're not truly supporting survivors at all. The United Nations has made significant strides in promoting women's and girls' empowerment through various initiatives, such as: - The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) - The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls While these initiatives are crucial, it's essential to recognize that men and boys also face unique challenges and vulnerabilities. Male survivors of violence, abuse, and trafficking often lack access to resources, support, and services. To address this disparity, I urge the United Nations to take a more inclusive approach to supporting survivors. This includes allocating resources and funding specifically for initiatives that cater to male survivors. I call upon the United Nations to declare November 19th as International Men's Day. This would provide a platform to raise awareness about the specific challenges faced by men and boys, promote positive male role models, and encourage discussions about masculinity and gender equality. #Movember #MonthOfAction #MenToo #Nov19 #InternationalMensDay #MensMentalHealth #MensEqualityMonth

Today marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). At the SVA Gender Equality Unit, we are committed to accelerating gender equality and combating GBV through strategic interventions, research, training, consulting, and impactful collaborations. Today, we join the global community in echoing this year's UN theme: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women. It’s not okay that 1 in 3 women experience violence in their lifetime. It’s not okay that every 10 minutes, a woman is killed. These heartbreaking statistics represent lives disrupted and potential unfulfilled. It's a stark reminder of the urgent work that remains. This cannot continue our watch. While these 16 days shine a critical spotlight on GBV, we challenge everyone to extend their commitment beyond this campaign. Imagine the lives we could save and the cycles we could break if we all chose to take a stand—not just for 16 days, but every single day of the year. Ending violence against women requires all of us. Let’s speak out, educate, advocate, and act. United, we can create a world where women live free from fear and violence. #UNiTE to End Violence Against Women #ItsNotOK #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #GenderEquality #UNiTE #SharedValueAfrica #ProfitWithPurpose #BreakTheSilence #SupportSurvivors Need help?
