I genuinely hope the confusion regarding the guidelines are addressed as a lot of professionals and students about to pursue/pursuing psychology are upset and disappointed. I would also encourage students to seek out their respective colleges and institutions to file grievances towards the updated guidelines. I'm happy to announce the publication of the book, Solution-Focused Therapy, as part of the American Psychological Association (APA) Theories of Psychotherapy series. Too many efforts and shoulders of giants to acknowledge here (SFBT developers Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, & the many researchers, trainers, and practitioners who continue to carry the torch). This is yet another validation of this respectful approach's standing in the field of psychotherapy and counseling. . . as well as coaching, business, education, and more. What I ( as a TEP in psychodrama) experienced during practicing 35 years, as the beauty of psychodrama, is the creative and positive resonance in the group that brings out the best of each of the participants. British Psychological Society (BPS): Stage Two Qualification Route at risk of shutting down for some specialisms. When three professional qualification training routes for Applied Psychologists in the UK are being reviewed, at the request of the BPS CEO to the Charity's Board of Trustees, with the proposal to withdraw these doctoral equivalent training opportunities - the alarm bells should be ringing in every member's ears. The BPS has stated that any decision will NOT affect any Psychologists in Training already enrolled on the Stage 2 Routes. Is it not time to reach out to the Open University, create a partnership, develop what is known as the Stage 2 Qualification Route for Psychologists, and embrace a flexible approach to training? A generic qualification in applied psychology (with elected specialisms) and conferring a doctoral qualification could be a way forward. It's not that long ago (well, perhaps it is now) that one of our network Divisions, in the days before the trend of a doctoral marque, offered a postgraduate certificate that was academically administered by the OU—with national success! Let's voice our concerns to the BPS Trustees to open a society-wide debate and secure a way forward for those Psychologists in Training and our Colleagues from the Divisions under threat who may be feeling quite vulnerable at this time. The future of Psychology as a recognised profession in the UK may be at risk. We look to our Professional Bodies for representation, and the trend over recent years for psychologists to look to other membership associations (successfully) for alignment has only diluted the standing of the BPS further.
