𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐅𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 – 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐩 While one of the main challenges for green hydrogen is price, there is another glaring obstacle: the 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭? We believe that women in hydrogen face the same 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 as women entrepreneurs in other industries do, such as building a network of peers and allies, fear of failure, lack of role models, access to funding and imposter syndrome. During the European Hydrogen Week in Brussels we are organising a joint event with the Women in Green Hydrogen Brussels Hub, to discuss these challenges, recommendations to overcome them and what the industry and male peers can do to support women entrepreneurs. What an inspiring event! A huge thank you to #womeninnewenergy for hosting such a powerful platform, giving women in the energy industry a chance to voice their stories, challenges, and the steps they’re taking to push for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future. Special thanks to Ingrid Huldal for inviting WING to the discussion—it was a fantastic opportunity to highlight geothermal’s potential (a great pre read geothermal 101 document was created by @calumwatson ) and the industry’s efforts to ensure it grows in a fair and just way. Ingrid Huldal & Calum Watson did a brilliant job pulling together hosting the round table, bringing attention to the real challenges we face, with a clear objective: putting forward tangible actions. Elisha Drumm ‘s overview of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) was packed with some hard-hitting statistics. The key takeaway? Women are still seriously underrepresented in leadership roles, but progress—though slow—is happening. Honestly, that round table could’ve gone on for hours, with the sheer amount of valuable information shared. You could easily write ten theses on the insights alone! My takeaway? It’s not just about getting women into leadership positions—we need to give them the tools, support, and opportunities to grow naturally into these roles. The hurdles and barriers to reaching these positions were clear across the board. What I especially loved was hearing about the grassroots programs, success stories, and the undeniable impact of mentorship. At the end of the day, it’s all about actions that lead to real results. What a fantastic panel discussion we had at the Baltic VCA Summit, which focused on the growing importance of women as LPs, private equity and venture capital investors and founders with incredible industry leaders Dovile Burgiene Alexander Branton and 🚀Kinga Stanislawska! 🤩 Here are my main takeaways: • Diversity Challenges: The lack of diversity in C-suite roles and among female founders persists, putting GPs and LPs at greater risk of not making optimal investment decisions and missing out on innovative ideas. • Sustainable Investing: Women have shown a commitment to sustainability, often demonstrating resilience during market fluctuations and making climate-conscious choices that can benefit society as a whole. • Supply-Side Issues: The challenge is not only on the demand side but also on the supply side. Too few women choose careers in venture capital and asset management, which limits the options available for LPs when allocating funds. What can we do about this? • Capital Allocators' Ambitions: It's crucial to address capital allocators about their commitment to diversity and the principles guiding their investment decisions. Having a diverse team should not just be a box to check but a fundamental aspect of their strategy. • Increasing Women in Decision-Making: We need to enhance the presence of women in decision-making roles. While there are numerous women in finance, most occupy roles behind the scenes and aren’t actively involved in real investment decisions. To make progress, here are couple of ideas to test: 1. The Rule of 3 Ps: Pay, performance, and promotion. Research shows that men are often promoted based on their potential, while women are assessed based on their performance. Industry leaders need to bridge this gap. 2. Role Models: Building a presence of female role models in investing is crucial. A thought-provoking question remains: “Who is the female Warren Buffett?” I was thrilled to see so many talented women at the VCA Summit, many of whom are in key positions. However, there's still substantial room to enhance diversity in decision-making roles. What are your thoughts? Who do you think could be the female Warren Buffett? 🤔

✨ I am thrilled to have participated in the GREEN CONFERENCE 2024, the African Women Entrepreneurs Sustainability Conference (AWSC 2024), on Wednesday, 11th, and Thursday, 12th December. This hit different for me. 🙌 Over two days, we learned about: ✅ Sustainable business practices that minimize harm to the environment. ✅ Turning waste into useful, recyclable products. ✅ Opportunities to access eco-financing and funding for sustainable growth. ✅ Practical tools like AI for eco-friendly marketing and Google tools to scale operations effectively. ✅ And so much more.
