🌍 Happy Mazingira Day! 🐘🌱 It’s Mazingira Day in Kenya, our annual reminder to love and protect the beautiful environment we live in (because, let’s be honest, we don’t have a spare planet). Whether you're a hardcore environmental warrior or just starting to wonder why single-use plastics are frowned upon, today’s the perfect time to level up your green game. Now, I know sustainability can sometimes feel like a big, scary word. But it doesn’t have to be. It could be as simple as cutting down on your energy use, planting a tree (or three), or just making sure your leftover ugali doesn’t go to waste. Let’s show some love to the wildlife, the oceans, the forests and, yes, even that one houseplant we’re all trying not to kill. So, what’s your small (or big) move for the environment today? #MazingiraDay #LoveOurPlanet #GreenGoals #KenyaGoesGreen #TinyStepsBigImpact #SustainabilityIsCool

September 17 is #WorldBambooDay! Since 2021, the USAID Sustainable Forest Management Project has helped develop bamboo value chains across five provinces of Vietnam, enhancing local livelihoods, facilitating market linkages, and helping to preserve forest resources, including Vietnam’s 1.5 million hectares of bamboo forest. The Project has established 54 bamboo and rattan economic collaborative groups, trained 3,300 people from forest-dependent communities (54% women and 92% ethnic minorities) in sustainable bamboo landscape practices, and organized 15 trade promotion and learning events to promote bamboo businesses. This has not only provided crucial support to more than 35 sustainable bamboo enterprises but also contributed to a target of avoiding 7.82 million tons of CO2 emissions through better-protected forests. #DAIClimateFutures Kimberly Keeton Clarence Cabañero Jette Findsen Christy Owen

Today is World Earth Day 2024 and it is a good opportunity to reflect on our commitment to a sustainable future. This year's focus on "Planet vs. Plastics" resonates deeply with our efforts at Fragomen. Over the past four years, we've been dedicated to reducing our plastic consumption and making tangible changes to create a more sustainable future. A few of our Fragomen UK accomplishments: ✅ Partnered with the Woodland Trust for all our office supplies, ensuring sustainability from the source. ✅ Removed single-use plastic in our UK offices. One of the ways to do this was by swapping plastic milk bottles for glass ones which led to saving over 39,520 plastic bottles (and counting!) ✅ Specialist drop-off points for various items such as batteries and crisp packets make recycling convenient and effective. ✅ Our commitment extends beyond plastics. By sourcing tea, coffee, fruit, and cleaning supplies from sustainable, local, or fair-trade providers, we're supporting communities and the environment. ✅ Every fruit basket we receive from our amazing suppliers Fruitful Office (UK) plants a tree in Malawi. Thanks to this initiative, we've already planted 2480 fruit trees and counting. I am grateful to be part of such an inspiring sustainability team and to work alongside likeminded colleagues Lisa Koenig Siobhan Owers (She/Her) Jane Goddard James Shaw Lauren Spencer Elizabeth McGarrity Clare Bradbury Amanda van der Berg Jack Gibbons #Earthday #immigration #FragomenCSR #Sustainability

Today, we are observing Mazingira Day in Kenya. It's a day dedicated to celebrating our environment and recognizing the challenges we face in protecting it. This day highlights the importance of safeguarding our natural resources and ensuring sustainable development for future generations. Mazingira Day is a reminder of the crucial role that a healthy environment plays in our well-being and economic prosperity. In Kenya, we are fortunate to have diverse ecosystems, including forests, savannas, wetlands, coastlines, and the Great Rift Valley. However, these ecosystems are under threat from deforestation, land degradation, pollution, climate change, and unsustainable agricultural practices. We observe this day for several reasons: 1. Climate Change: Kenya is feeling the impacts of climate change, such as rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and changing agricultural patterns, which threaten food security, water availability, and livelihoods. 2. Loss of Biodiversity: Deforestation, habitat destruction, and poaching are endangering wildlife and plant species unique to our country. 3. Pollution: Waste management remains a challenge in Kenya, with urban centers facing problems with plastic pollution, illegal dumpsites, and air pollution, impacting human health and the environment. 4. Sustainable Development: Mazingira Day is an opportunity to reflect on our contributions to creating a more sustainable future in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On Mazingira Day, we are expected to take action by: - Conserving natural resources through waste reduction, recycling, and supporting the circular economy. - Protecting biodiversity by supporting wildlife conservation initiatives, avoiding illegal logging and poaching, and preserving natural habitats. - Advocating for policy change that encourages sustainable land use, adoption of renewable energy, and environmental regulations. - Educating and engaging communities on sustainable farming practices, water conservation, and the importance of reducing carbon footprints. - Supporting green businesses and promoting eco-friendly innovations that help reduce environmental impacts. The future of Kenya’s environment is in our hands. Let's take responsibility, champion sustainable practices, and ensure the beauty and resources of our country are preserved for generations to come. #MazingiraDay #EnvironmentKenya #Sustainability #ClimateAction #KenyaEnvironment #ConserveNature #EcoKenya #SustainableDevelopment #Biodiversity #GreenKenya #PlasticWaste #KenyaClimateAction #GreenInitiatives #ActNowForNature #CircularEconomy #EnvironmentallyResponsible

Happy #earthday 2024! 🌍✨🎉 Today, we're proud to reflect on a meaningful journey that began with a simple email – or rather, 50 million of them. This is the amount of emails our customers sent through Marketo in 1 year! 📧💼🌳 Did you know? Sending one business email generates an average of about 1 gram of CO2. Through our partnership with Treedom, we've turned this 50,000 kg CO2 footprint from emails into a thriving forest, planting a total of 35 trees dedicated to our valued customers. 🌳💚 Our commitment to sustainability took us to Kenya, where our very own Peter Hofmann Rytter experienced the remarkable efforts of a tree nursery near Mida in southeast Kenya. Managed by Adrian Seme and his passionate team, the nursery is training local farmers in organic farming and the importance of tree planting. With 20,000 baobab trees planted there yearly and about 90,000 new trees nurtured for replanting, their dedication is making a tangible difference.🌱 Despite baobab trees' resilience and benefits, local awareness remains low. However, through Adrian's work and community education, we're hopeful for a greener future in the Mida/Watamu/Malindi area. Our visit was not only educational but deeply inspiring, showcasing the potential of community-driven environmental efforts. 📚🌍 To our customers, partners, and dedicated individuals like Adrian and his team, we would like to say thank you for joining us on this journey to a more sustainable world. 🙏💚 Make sure you visit the OMC forest here: https://lnkd.in/dpxK_6mE #Sustainability #TreePlanting #Kenya #ClimateAction #CorporateResponsibility #GreenInitiative #EcoFriendly #SaveThePlanet #GlobalWarming #Conservation #Environment #GoGreen

🦸♂️On Tuesdays, we celebrate volunteers! Today, we have an inspiring story from Kenya🇰🇪: Giwa Climate Response is a three-year-old community group working to protect the environment in Nyeri, Kenya. Recently, volunteers, local residents, and company employees came together to plant 833 tree seedlings in Nyeri Hill Forest to help restore the ecosystem and preserve the environment. They planted a mix of local and exotic tree species, including Graveria sp, Olea Africana, Warbugia ugandensis, and Acacia xanthophloea. The organizer, Justus Wanjohi (https://lnkd.in/dDZYjmpc), aims to revive forests that were destroyed recently and bring back lost biodiversity. Together, we can create a greener, safer, and more sustainable environment. The goal of the Impactors Initiative is to increase the recycling rate from a very low 9% by recycling everything, everywhere, on time, and usefully. People need people, and we believe that together, as a community, we can achieve much more than corporations, management companies, recyclers, and governments. Unfortunately, many of them often have opposite goals, leading to deforestation and biodiversity loss. #weimpactors #impactors #recycling #zerowaste #ecofriendly #sustainability #climatechange #gogreen #plasticfree #environment #earthday #greenliving #ecoliving #reducewaste #savetheplanet #greenenergy #ecowarrior

🏞 Are you aware of these initiatives in South Africa? Urban Green Spaces Expansion: Many of us at Bahori have a love for trail and road running, which keeps us searching for urban green spaces to explore. Two of our favourites are Intaka (https://intaka.co.za/) and Newlands Forest at the base of Table Mountain National Park. An interesting fact is that >35% of the City of Cape Town is dedicated urban green space. This is a great way to enhance biodiversity, mitigate urban heat island effects, and improve air quality for residents. Regenerative Agriculture Practices: We are currently collaborating with farmers across South Africa who are adopting regenerative agriculture techniques, such as biodiversity conservation, cover cropping, and rotational grazing, to improve soil health and enhance resilience to climate change. Plastic Waste Upcycling: Already back in 2022 the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research determined that the informal waste pickers, that you see scooting around on their makeshift carts on the streets of Jozi, collect 80%-90% of all used packaging and paper that is recycled. These initiatives not only reduce the need for landfill airspace, but allow for the upcycling of this waste into valuable products, such as building materials, clothing, and furniture, contributing to circular economy principles. These initiatives are powerful examples of how collective action and innovative approaches can lead to substantial environmental benefits. As we continue to explore, collaborate, and innovate, let us remain inspired by the progress in South Africa and motivated to make a difference in protecting our planet for future generations. #bahori #bahoriconsulting #sustainability #SustainableAfrica #environmentalprotection #sustainablebusiness #sustainabilitymatters #sustainabilityleaders #sustainabilityleadership #sustainabilityjourney #sustainabilitystrategy #EnvironmentalLeadership #environmental #environmentaleducation #environmentalsustainability #environmentalimpact #environmentallyfriendly #environment #GreenBusiness #SustainableLiving #EcoFriendly #GreenTech #SustainabilityInBusiness #EcoInnovation
