I've been diving into Ariel Patton's Topsoil newsletter recently to better understand ag-tech. It seems that agriculture will undergo a transformative shift very soon. 👨👨👦👦 95% of US farms are family-owned, with more farmers in their 60s/70s than in their 20s/30s. 🚜 A 2012 survey found that 58% of farmers plan for family members to take over upon retirement. 👩💻 As of 2015, agriculture remains one of the least digitized industries. Precision and regenerative agriculture are now in the spotlight, with new technology poised to drive this transformation. However, it's difficult telling a farmer, whose family has tended their land for generations, that some software knows better than them. While elder farmers are certainly willing to adopt new methods, there will be a natural opportunity for change as a generation of young growers takes over.
