Over the last decades, the restaurant industry has been very successful in the KSA (and in the Middle East in general). There’s been a diversification across growing segments, and also an increment in the sophistication level of operators as the penetration of chains has doubled over the last twenty years. If the brand is local there may be a struggle to set up SOPs, bring systems up to global standards, and gain traction for brand recognition. If the brand is international, there will be challenges to manage regional supply chains, achieve a successful brand translation, adapt marketing and technology, comply with customs and labor laws, and resonate with regional cultures and audiences. The hospitality business is complex, margins are shrinking, and customer loyalty is a struggle as it never was. But there’s also plenty of opportunity and paths to successfully operate in this ”new normal”. #restaurants #ksa #middleeast

The rapid growth of Saudi Arabia's HORECA sector has exposed significant supply chain gaps, especially for SMEs. Here’s why: 1. Shift to Smaller Formats -Transition from large restaurants to niche cafés and casual dining. -Smaller restaurants need frequent, smaller deliveries. - Large traditional suppliers prefer the opposite. 2. Fragmented Supplier Relationships -Smaller restaurants must manage multiple suppliers. -Increased logistical challenges and lower priority from suppliers. 3. Delivery and Inventory Issues -Traditional suppliers focus on large, infrequent deliveries. -SMEs face long lead times, overstocking, and cash flow issues. 4. Financial Strain -Suppliers demand cash-on-delivery or short-term payment terms. -SMEs lack financing options like Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL). 5. Technology Gaps -Traditional supply chains are not digitalised. -Manual processes lead to inaccuracies and inefficiencies. 6. Increased Competition -Small restaurants face higher costs and lower margins. -Fragmented supply chain hampers economies of scale. #HORECA #SupplyChain #SMEs #SaudiArabia #Jumlaty

Restaurant and Hotels sales (two segments of HORECA) were lagging behind other industries in the KSA in the last year (taking May 2024 vs May 2023 and based on POS transactions). Weakening sales and falling margins can shake confidence. But while the challenges facing the foodservice industry in the GCC are more complex than regional operators have had to deal with in the past, the right strategies can put them on the path for long-term, sustainable growth. https://lnkd.in/d_X-Ws9A #restaurants #ksa #mena
