India is home to over 3,600 deeptech startups, with 480 new incorporations in the past year, doubling the previous year’s figures. Among these, more than 100 startups have pioneered IP or innovative solutions in new domains, according to a Nasscom report. Ranked third globally in the tech startup ecosystem and sixth in deeptech, India boasts emerging companies like Agnikul, GalaxyEye, HealthPlix, Sarvam AI, and Peptris. These firms are tackling critical issues in healthtech, sustainability, AI, and space tech. A significant 74% of these startups are focused on AI, up from 62% between 2014 and 2022. However, global funding downturns affected the sector, with deeptech investments falling by 77% to $850 million last year. The report also noted 31 M&A deals, a 45% decline, as focus shifted to enhancing AI capabilities. Strategic sectors identified include space and defence, healthcare, automotive, and industrial manufacturing. Support for deeptech growth includes access to patient capital, strong R&D partnerships, streamlined government procurement, and implementing the 2023 Deeptech Policy. Deeptech Startups Bullish on ₹2K cr AI Adoption Fund Government's focus on deeptech startups, via the recently announced India artificial intelligence (AI) mission, is a "good starting point" to building a conducive investment environment for the sector, said industry stakeholders. ·      The mission's focus on accelerating research and development (R&D) in these companies, experts say, will bolster innovation and create new business models in the sector. ·      The Union Cabinet, last week, approved an outlay of ₹10,372 crore for five years for the India AI Mission. It is aimed at fostering innovation in AI through public-private partnerships (PPPs). ·      Of this, close to ₹2,000 crore has been earmarked for financing deeptech startups, with a focus on accelerating R&D in these firms. ·      The move will provide much-needed financial assistance to deeptech startups in the country, an area which founders say has been a major roadblock for innovation in the sector. #Deeptech #Startup #Deeptechstartup #research #innovation #Indiaaimission FounderLabs

India has 3,600 deeptech startups, ranking sixth globally, according to a Nasscom and Zinnov report. In 2023, 480 deeptech startups were established, double the number from 2022. These new startups focus heavily on AI, with 74% specializing in the field, up from 62% between 2014 and 2022. Notable companies include Agnikul, GalaxyEye, HealthPlix, Sarvam AI, and Peptris, spanning healthtech, sustainability, AI, and space-tech sectors. Jeyandran Venugopal, Chair of the Nasscom DeepTech Council, emphasized India's strong STEM talent and potential to lead in AI, quantum computing, and next-gen robotics. While India ranks third in the technology startup ecosystem, it is sixth in deeptech.
