This month is Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month, a fantastic initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of adopting guinea pigs from rescue organizations rather than purchasing them from pet stores or breeders. Guinea pigs, like many other animals, often find themselves in shelters due to various reasons such as owners being unable to care for them anymore, neglect, or abandonment. --- Empowering Pet Crematoriums, Pet Aquamation, Veterinarians and Pet Parents #pet #pets #cat #cats #dogs #dog #petlovers #petlove #petlover #angelpaw #aquamation #cremation #alkalinehydrolysis #waterbasedcremation #petaquamation #petcremation #petloss #petdeath #petservice #petcare

🐕 A mutt is a dog of mixed breed! #Mutts often have a broader genetic pool, which can lead to fewer hereditary health issues compared to #purebred dogs. This diversity may result in greater overall resilience and longevity. 1. Unique Appearance: Each #mutt is unique, with a blend of physical features from their different breed backgrounds. This often results in distinctive coat patterns, ear shapes, and sizes. 2. Temperament: Their behavior is influenced by their mixed heritage, making them versatile in terms of personality. Mutts can be gentle, energetic, or calm, depending on their genetic makeup and upbringing. 3. Rescue Support: Adopting a mutt helps reduce the population of homeless dogs in shelters. #mixedbreed #mixedbreeds #jooju #petcare #petservices #petcareservices #pethealthcare #dog #dogbreed #dogbreeds #veterinarycare #veterinarian #videoconsultations #onlineconsultations #videoconsultation #consulting #doctorconsultation #pet #pets #petlover #petlovers #petlife #doglovers

#DatabaseDetectives Episode 10! Understanding the difference between a microchip database and the The Kennel Club is crucial for responsible pet keepership and breeding. 🔍 Microchip Database: 1. Aids in identifying and reuniting lost pets with their keepers. 2. Stores microchip numbers and keeper contact information. 3. Essential for keepers, breeders, implanters, veterinarians, shelters, animal control and many others. 🏅 Kennel Club: 1. Promotes and regulates purebred dog breeds. 2. Devoted to dog health, welfare and training. 3. Organises dog shows and provides breeder resources. In the UK, it's mandatory to chip and register your dogs, and in England, this extends to cats too. The Disconnect Between Guidelines and Practice in Street Dog Management Handling street dogs in India should be about compassion and respect, but sadly, that's not always the case. The guidelines for managing these dogs, especially those with complaints of aggression or biting, are clear and humane. However, the reality often falls short, leading to practices that contradict the very spirit of these guidelines. According to the protocols, when a complaint about an aggressive street dog is received, the ABC Implementing Agency is supposed to step in. The process involves verifying the complaint, checking any medical treatment records, and educating the community about dog behavior and bite prevention. Only if these steps fail should the dog be captured and observed. Sounds good, right? But here’s where things often go awry. Instead of humane capture methods, many street dogs are trapped in distressing ways. Think about it: dogs caught in traps or rushed into facilities without proper care end up more scared and aggressive. This defeats the purpose of the observation process, which aims to assess and calm the dog, not traumatize it further. Also troubling is the frequent lack of follow-up and proper assessment. The guidelines call for a thorough review by a committee, including veterinarians and animal welfare representatives, over a period of up to three weeks. Unfortunately, this step is often skipped or done hastily. Dogs are sometimes returned to their neighborhoods too quickly or without adequate evaluation, which can perpetuate the issues rather than resolve them. The problem is compounded by the tendency to act on complaints that may not be fully justified. Sometimes, dogs are removed based on false complaints or community pressure, rather than a genuine assessment of their behavior. This approach not only harms the dogs but also fails to address the root causes of the perceived aggression. To fix this, we need to stick to the humane guidelines and invest in proper training for everyone involved in handling street dogs. Public awareness is also key people need to understand why humane treatment matters. In the end, sticking to humane practices isn’t just about following rule it’s about treating street dogs with the respect they deserve. Let’s make sure we’re not just paying lip service to these guidelines but truly embracing them. After all, a compassionate approach benefits everyone dogs and people alike. #animalrights #india #dogs #Activism #animalwelfare

If your organization has the opportunity to design a new facility or remodel an existing one, the first step is to complete a needs assessment A needs assessment may determine more animal housing is not what’s needed. Remember, increasing the number of animal housing units does not always equate with more lifesaving. So, even if a new build or major remodel are not required or just not possible at the current time, don’t underestimate the power of retrofitting or repurposing existing facilities. Facility design concepts can be useful in these situations as well. For example, repurposing small dog kennels to use for cat housing can have significant impact on the health and welfare of the animals. If your organization is considering a new build or just reimagining the design of an existing facility, we would love to have a conversation with you on next steps. #animalcare #veterinarian #animalwelfare #facilityrehab #facilityremodel #needsassessment

Roger Bannister was the first person in history to break the 4-minute mile. This record was beaten 46 days later because others saw what could be achieved. Witnessing pets live long, healthy lives can inspire us to strive for the same with our own companions. Once we change our belief system (BS) and recognize what’s achievable, new possibilities open up, and the boundaries of what we think can be achieved are expanded. While the average lifespan of pets varies by species and breed, there are documented cases of dogs and cats that have lived past 30 years. These cases serve as the inspiration that animals have the potential to live past 20 and beyond…. Become an Empowered Pet Parent Today! Fantastic news! 🐇🥹 Petco is stopping the sale of pet rabbits after facing criticism that it often results in owners feeling overwhelmed by the care they require. 🙏 Petco announced Tuesday that it is “recommitting to an adoption-only policy for rabbits,” citing “feedback received in partnership with animal rescue and welfare organizations nationwide.” 🐰 Earlier this month, Rabbit.org called out Petco: “Selling rabbits in pet stores often leads to impulse buys by customers unaware of the extensive care and significant veterinary costs involved.” These hasty purchases often lead to ‘summer dump season,’ when many pet rabbits are abandoned outdoors, becoming roadkill or prey for predators.” 😢 The sale of rabbits in pet stores has long contributed to overpopulation and the neglect of these sensitive animals. Rabbits are the third most frequently surrendered animals in shelters, often due to misunderstandings about their care needs. By ending rabbit sales, Petco is taking a significant step toward reducing the number of rabbits that end up in shelters or are abandoned. 👍 However, this policy does not apply to other animals sold by Petco, including rodents, reptiles, birds, and fish. While we’re excited about this positive change, we encourage Petco to extend this new policy to include ALL animals they sell. Do you agree? 🩷 • • • • #vegannews #animalnews #petco #petstorerabbits

⭐Protecting dogs is crucial for their well-being and the harmony of communities. Firstly, education plays a pivotal role in dog protection. Teaching responsible pet ownership, including proper training, socialization, and the importance of regular veterinary care, can prevent behavioral issues and reduce the likelihood of dogs being abandoned or mistreated. Additionally, advocating for spaying and neutering programs helps control the population of stray dogs, ultimately reducing the number of animals at risk of neglect or abuse. 🤎Secondly, enforcement of animal welfare laws is essential to ensure that dogs are not subjected to cruelty or neglect. Stricter penalties for offenses such as animal cruelty, neglect, and illegal breeding can act as deterrents and promote a culture of respect and empathy towards animals. ⚡Moreover, implementing licensing and registration requirements for dog owners helps authorities track and monitor the well-being of dogs within communities, facilitating timely interventions in cases of mistreatment or abandonment. 💫Lastly, promoting adoption from reputable shelters and rescue organizations encourages responsible pet ownership while providing loving homes for dogs in need. Supporting initiatives that facilitate adoption, such as adoption events, fostering programs, and public awareness campaigns, can help reduce the number of dogs euthanized in shelters each year. 🤍By prioritizing education, enforcement of animal welfare laws, and promoting adoption, we can collectively work towards creating safer and happier environments for dogs everywhere. #ProtectInnocentPaws #VoiceForDogs #JusticeForCanines #PawsForProtection #DogsDeserveBetter #InnocentPawsCampaign #SafeHavenForDogs #DefendDogRights #LoveForFurryFriends #GuardianOfCanines

4wWe adopted a rescue over the summer who had been returned a number of times. The rescue was very open about why she was returned and we felt that we had the right environment for her to thrive. That knowledge helped us make an informed decision and we have been working on her quirks. I can't imagine my life without her!
