In recent times, the most frequent type of High Potential Event in our Industry has been static dropped objects. Another sobering fact is - of all types of High Potential Events we have recently experienced in our Industry - this type of High Potential Event fails to a safe condition (preventive controls planned, in place and effective) less often than any other type of High Potential Event. With the above in mind - although Q3 is almost done - we cannot lose sight of the importance of our Q3 theme. https://lnkd.in/g3afxuQd We know it - and so do our friends in the UK (Step Change in Safety) and Norway (Always Safe).
Q3 Theme: Safe Lifting, Working at Height & Preventing Dropped Objects - Offshore Crane Inspection and Maintenance Competence Guideline. Developed by our Cranes & Lifting Working Group, it provides guidance to operators and service companies regarding the minimum competence required for offshore crane inspectors and maintenance technicians, to assist companies in demonstrating that competence for these roles is documented in a uniform manner to meet accepted practice. We are Stronger and Safer Together. https://lnkd.in/gDSFYGdB

DID YOU KNOW?! According to the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), routine overload testing of slings is not recommended unless it is explicitly required by national legislation or the manufacturer’s guidelines. This guidance ensures that lifting gear remains in optimal condition without unnecessary strain. Safety Tip: Always follow the appropriate standards and consult with qualified engineers for lifting operations. Stay compliant and avoid unnecessary risks! #SafetyFirst #EngineeringExcellence #LiftingOperations #MansaEngineering #LEEA

Operating a crane carefully requires thorough preparation, attention to safety protocols, and precise execution. Key considerations include: 1. Pre-Operation Inspections: Check the crane for mechanical issues, ensure proper setup on stable ground, and inspect rigging equipment. 2. Load Management: Verify load weight and center of gravity, ensuring it does not exceed the crane’s capacity. 3. Communication: Use clear signals or radios between operators and ground crews. 4. Environment Awareness: Monitor for obstacles like power lines, weather conditions, or uneven terrain. 5. Controlled Movements: Operate slowly and steadily to avoid swinging or destabilizing the load. 6. Emergency Preparedness: Be familiar with the crane’s safety systems and emergency stop functions. Proper training and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to prevent accidents and ensure smooth operation. #crane #operator #accidents #learnonlinkedin #heavymachinery

WHAT IS The VCVT W406? The VCVT W406 certificate, also known as the TCVT Mobile Crane certificate, is a certification that demonstrates competency in operating mobile cranes. This certification is typically required for individuals who operate mobile cranes in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and logistics. Obtaining the VCVT W406 certificate involves undergoing specific training and passing assessments to ensure that the individual has the necessary skills and knowledge to operate mobile cranes safely and effectively. The certification covers various aspects of mobile crane operation, including crane setup, lifting and hoisting techniques, load handling, safety procedures, and equipment maintenance. Having the VCVT W406 certificate is essential for individuals working in roles that involve operating mobile cranes, as it demonstrates their competency and commitment to safety in crane operations. Additionally, employers often require this certification as part of their safety and regulatory compliance standards to ensure that crane operators meet the necessary qualifications for the job.

• Determine the available capacity of the equipment being used • Rig the load so that it is stable and under control during the hoisting process • Make allowances for any unknown factors. In addition, riggers must be aware of common hazards, factors that reduce capacity, the inspection and use of slings, and safe practices in rigging, lifting, and landing loads.
