Why did NCARB create the new Competency Standard for Architects? 🤔 As NCARB works to envision the future of licensure, it is essential that our programs share a core expectation of what competency looks like at the point of initial licensure. The NCARB Competency Standard for Architects provides that foundation and lays the groundwork for a flexible, accessible path to licensure. Learn more about how (and why) NCARB was able to develop the new standard—with input from thousands of practicing architects and our volunteer Competency Task Force—and how you can stay in the loop with upcoming changes » https://lnkd.in/eK9UdZqG

Clear and concise overview. Carbon reduction operational and embodied.
We recently shared KieranTimberlake's latest The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2030 Commitment reporting, but wanted to frame it as part of a broader discussion on why our industry needs to shift focus to reducing carbon, not just energy. We asked Associate Kit Elsworth from our Research Group, and member of the National AIA 2030 Working Group for the past four years, to share some resources and lessons learned. As part of an ongoing dialogue, we look forward to hearing your thoughts and questions.

One of the first things the mole people did was organise a series of systems mapping workshops to get a handle on the subsurface and all its components, how they interact, what pressures and drivers act upon them and what institurions and organisations are involved in governance and policy making. Take a look at Chapter 5 of the report to see some of the sub-systems maps fosussing on the links between streetworks and data, tunnelling and heat and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and flood risk that are particularly interesting and illustrative of subsurface challenges. https://lnkd.in/ekUarqjT Systems thinking, mapping and engineering is incresingly seen as a key enabler for succesful projects especially when they interact with a range of different disciplines, organisations and people, as is always the case in our densly populated cities. My favourite resource for systems thinking is here: https://lnkd.in/e7PHuZji some of the best visuals of systems thinking in the built environment (courtesy of Melissa Zanocco OBE and team) are here https://lnkd.in/eja94kd and I also recommend looking at what Ana Mijic and the team at Imperial College London are doing https://lnkd.in/erc2GsRM If you want to take a deep dive into systems approaches to urban underground space check out Loretta Tann's work on this: https://lnkd.in/eU_5n_2v Tomorrow it is finally time to talk about my favourite topic...
