Join me in taking a stand in support of the #FansFirstAct on today's #FixTheTix Day of Advocacy! As a venue manager, I have seen firsthand the effects that predatory ticketing practices have on the events that I work. Spec ticket sellers buy up tickets forcing fans to turn to secondary markets, and prohibiting the real fans from reaching the legitimate tickets first. The fans then will buy these potentially fake tickets on re-seller sites, try to use them at the venue, and get upset when they don't work after paying a price that is oftentimes higher than the original cost of the ticket sold through the venue. This results in low attendance at shows, which in turn causes low merchandise sales for bands, low sales at the bar for the venue, and arguments at the front door because the common consumer does not have the knowledge to understand the complexities of this issue.
