🔶 MARCH WITH US FOR ORANGE SHIRT DAY! 🔶 Do you have your orange shirt ready for September 30th, a symbol of our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation? *** On this day, it is crucial we reaffirm our commitment to Indigenous women and children and to their right to justice, equality, and security. Recent events remind us that systemic racism continues to pose significant challenges for Indigenous peoples across the country. *** Statistics clearly highlight the disproportionate risk of violence faced by Indigenous women in Canada and the unfortunate upward trend in these numbers – underscoring an immediate need for targeted interventions to address this ongoing crisis. Sexual assault offences were reported by 5,474 Victorian women and girls in 2023. 87% of sexual assaults recorded in Victoria in 2023 were female. The largest cohort of victim-survivors in Victoria, at 37%, were at the time of the offence aged between 10 and 17 years of age. In the 16 days the Safe. Everywhere. Always. challenge takes place, 240 cases of sexual assault will be reported by women and girls in Victoria. 9 out of 10 sexual assault offences will not be reported to authorities. The Australian Bureau of Statistics noted 2023 was its worst year on record for sexual offences. This doesn’t even begin to touch on homicide and non-sexual assault against women. With the Energy and Water Ombudsman (Victoria) (EWOV), I am walking, running, and cycling 100km to raise donations to fight this ever-growing epidemic. My personal fundraising goal is $240 in recognition of each female victim-survivor that will report a sexual offence during the challenge. Your tax-deductible donation to UN Women Australia will support empowerment of women and girls, education of men and boys, provide legal assistance, psychosocial counselling, and strengthen implementation of laws, policies, and action plans to address violence against women and girls on a global scale. For 24-hour counselling for any Australian who has experienced or is at risk of sexual, family and domestic violence, please call 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).

(Content warning: Discussion of Gender-Based Violence.) All the women in my family are survivors of gender-based violence. The perpetrators were our own relatives. Our teachers. Our friends. Our partners. Our ex-partners. Our bosses. Our colleagues. Our board members. Every time I think about this, I get a sick feeling at the pit of my stomach. When will enough be enough? We live in a world where women lead despite all the odds being against us. Women lead despite the fact that: ⏰ 5 women or girls are killed every hour by someone in their family; 💔 26% of women aged 15 and older have been subjected to intimate partner violence; 🙋🏻♀️ Only less than 40% of women who have experienced violence seek help; and 🌈 For the LGBTQIA+ community, Indigenous women, ethnic minorities, migrants and refugees, and women and girls living with disabilities — these figures are much worse. When will we live in a world where women lead because we are safe to do so? When will we live in a world where women leaders thrive, because our relatives, our teachers, our friends, our partners, our ex-partners, our bosses, our colleagues and our board members, all back us to succeed? From November 25 to December 10, Wedu stands in solidarity for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence by raising awareness about it, challenging existing societal norms, and calling on our decision-makers to address such fundamental violations to human rights. Once again, Wedu calls on you to donate to support the work of organisations like ours, which enable women leaders to take up the space we all so rightfully deserve. https://lnkd.in/gt_fNeHc #RiseTogether #LeadwithWedu #InvestinWomen #OrangeTheWorld #16days

Today, our young peace advocates with Never Again International - Canada join the international community in marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Did you know that almost 1 in 3 girls are subjected to violence at least once in their life? 650 million girls are married before they are 18 and every 10 minutes, a woman is killed. We can all do something to empower those affected, as well as prevent and reduce gender-based violence. Become an activist for women's rights and create a better future by putting an end to violence against women and girls. Never Again International - Canada is empowering young girls to advocate for their rights and campaign against sexual gender-based violence and the exploitation of the use of child soldiers. A primary focus of our work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is to keep war-affected children and demobilized child soldiers away from armed groups by keeping them in school. Your donation can make it possible for war-affected children to actively engage in peacebuilding initiatives and allows youth who are unable to pay for school fees to become the next generation of peacemakers. #GivingTuesdayCA #noexcuses #stopviolenceagainstwomen

Reflecting on Human Rights Day & The Ongoing Fight for Justice While #HumanRightsDay on December 10th has passed, the urgent need to protect and advance human rights remains a constant. This year's theme, "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now," served as a powerful call to action, highlighting the ongoing struggle for justice and equality around the globe. The fight for human rights is not confined to a single day; it's a continuous commitment. Individuals and communities continue to face systemic injustices, discrimination, and violence that threaten their fundamental freedoms. From the right to life and liberty to freedom of expression and equality before the law, these principles require constant vigilance and advocacy. 16 days. That’s all it takes to change lives—and this year, I’m inviting you to join me in making a real difference. I'm participating and supporting Rivina Foundation — a global foundation founded by human rights advocate and lawyer Anna Rivina, which helps Russian-speaking women in emigration who are facing violence. Any woman—from Canada to Tanzania—can get free consultations from crisis psychologists and access legal guidance in her country. She can find out her rights and what kind of support she can receive from local police or activists. To support their 2025 efforts, I’m offering 3 personal consultations —each worth $500. We can discuss topics from refining your product to crafting a winning strategy to secure millions in funding. This is a rare opportunity to access my knowledge and experience—I almost never offer consultations for sale! Here's how you can do it: 1. Fill out a quick request form by December 15 (attached in the first comment) 2. Wait for a message from the Rivina team 3. Make your donation 4. Get my contact info and we'll set up the consultation Your donation will fund crisis psychologists, legal experts, and Rivina's dedicated team to keep helping vulnerable women. Let’s face it: poverty and financial struggles are strongly linked to violence against women, putting them at higher risk. At the same time, experiencing violence can lead to poverty, as women may face costs like medical bills or lose income. Helping women gain financial independence—through things like owning land or having good jobs—can protect them from abuse. Combining this with efforts to promote fair treatment and equal rights for women and girls can create lasting positive changes and reduce gender-based violence. Together, we can make a real difference. Who’s with me? 🌟

History of Grampian Women’s Aid We were established in 1977 inspired by the women’s liberation movement in a period where activists collectively recognised that there was a need to provide support and safe refuge to women experiencing domestic abuse. Initially, our focus was on women’s experiences, but as the organisation evolved our focus included children and young people. Our organisation was built by pioneering women volunteers on donations alone. Built upon these grassroots feminist principles, we have expanded year after year whilst maintaining these feminist values. We are funded through a variety of funders including the Scottish Government, Aberdeenshire Council, the Robertson Trust and donations to allow us to provide the best service we can for women, children, and young people experiencing domestic abuse. We work within a framework of recognising the gendered nature of domestic abuse and violence against women, which is routed in gender inequality. We believe that all women, children and young people have the right to live free from abuse. The development of our service provision over the last 40 plus years has been guided by the women, children, and young people that we have supported. They have been our inspiration. We offers free advice, confidential and non-judgemental, specialist service to women, children and young people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire who have experienced domestic abuse. We are affiliated with Scottish Women's Aid. #womenshistorymonth #enddomesticabuse #aberdeenshire #aberdeen #domesticabuse
