📣 Connections reform is on the way! 📣 🔌 To enable the connections process to keep pace with today's rapidly-changing energy landscape, customers planning a connection to our network are being encouraged to prepare now for connections reform - and to have their say in the latest consultation. ✅ Reform is being led by the National Energy System Operator (NESO) which is urging customers to gather project evidence in advance, on issues such as land rights, ownership and planning permission, to prove their projects are ready to proceed. This will help to ensure there are no delays in processing projects when the reforms kick in. 📅 From February 2025, the focus is expected to shift away from the traditional 'first come, first served' model to a 'first ready, first connected' approach. This will mean non-viable projects are removed from the connections queue, making way for projects that are viable and ready to connect. 💬 Customers can give their feedback now on proposed connections reform in an open consultation being run by NESO until 2 December. If you'd like to help shape connections reform, and find out how reforms may affect your projects, find out more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyahYzSU #Connections #Reform #Consultation

📣 If you’re waiting to connect your generation project to our network, you may be able to help us speed up the connections process and accelerate the UK’s journey to net zero by taking part in our Request for Information (RFI). 🤝 To help manage the demand for connections, we’re joining forces with National Energy System Operator and asking customers to complete our latest RFI which will allow us to understand the ability of any projects over 1MW to meet relevant land rights criteria and their planning status. ⚡ Your responses will support our connections reform and ultimately improve the connections process for customers on our distribution network. 🔌 One of the key areas of connections reform is to move to a ‘first ready, first connected’ approach which is why it’s so important to obtain accurate project data, enabling us to understand the wider impacts on our customers and make informed decisions. Useful points: 💡 This request is only for projects with an export capacity of equal to or greater than 1MW 💡 Where you have more than one project, please complete one form for each (only complete this form if you did not complete it previously) 💡 If your project has been withdrawn, there is no need to complete a form for that project 💡 The data will only be used for high level analytical purposes and will not be used to make project specific queue entry or priority allocation decisions 💡 The ESO will be collating the data and sharing it with us 💡 The deadline to submit your information is 14 October 2024 at 10am. Complete your RFI here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eKuegetp #Connections #Reform #NetZero

Common sense from barry cowen regarding the CRU's (Irish Utility Regulator) solo call on Ireland's Digital Infrastructure future, which will not only derail the decarbonisation of the Electricity grid (Baseload, Demand Response.... ) but also effectively close after 50 years of growth of our largest service export ICT including the "Data" from Irish based "Centres" 🤷🇮🇪 "Mr Cowen, a long-time critic of the regulator, said he was “shocked” that the Government was allowing the commission to be the arbiter of growth for the Republic’s digital industry. “Ireland is a leader in the world on digital technologies. The data centre sector is vital to Ireland’s edge in the world as some manufacturing and other traditional industries are challenged here.” Let's not sleepwalk into a situation where we become a backwater for innovation after working so hard these past 50 years to shift our economy from depending on the export of Live Cows 🙏 Let's work together and find the solutions to decarbonise our electrical grid whilst maintaining the economic and job dividends of ICT 🤞 ICT and related services are Ireland's largest export and, along with Pharma, Life Sciences, and Finance, is a crucial ingredient of our economy both for jobs and economic development. Last week we submitted a response to the National Infrastructure Commission's call for evidence on electricity distribution networks. Representing Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs), Independent Gas Transporters (IGTs), and independent New Appointments and Variations (NAVs) across Great Britain, the INA is dedicated to advocating for competitive and innovative solutions in the energy sector. In our response, we highlight key areas that require attention: - Promotion of Competition: Competition in network provision has driven tailored and agile solutions for developers, supporting growth and our net zero goals. We advocate for consistent regulatory support across all energy networks to ensure this trend continues. - Planning Policy and Barriers: Revising land and consent policies is critical to overcoming barriers to timely connections. We call for urgent conclusions on land rights and consents to streamline access to third-party land for infrastructure development. - Strategic Planning: Equal prioritisation of transmission and distribution investments is essential. Establishing the National Energy System Operator (NESO) as a regional system planner will play a crucial role in ensuring coherent planning across voltage levels. - Technological Innovations: Projects like DINO, funded by Innovate UK, demonstrate how smart network management can delay or eliminate the need for network reinforcement, supporting increased uptake of low-carbon technologies. Our response underscores the need for a more dynamic and innovative approach to network provision, fostering a regulatory environment that supports effective competition and sustainable growth. Let's drive the future of energy networks towards efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. #EnergySector #NetZero #SustainableDevelopment #Innovation #InfrastructurePlanning #INA

Heading to Power + Utilities Australia today. I am on a panel tomorrow representing Regional Development Australia (RDA) Sydney in a discussion which is essentially asking whether we can create local support for major infrastructure projects associated with the energy transition. Clearly given the large number of papers, guidelines, codes and more issued across all levels of Government and industry in this space, there isn't a simple answer. But perhaps there are some best practices we can all learn from? What are your thoughts? #SocialLicense #CommunityEngagement #renewbles Paul Mathers Jon Faine Stephanie McGregor Malcolm T. Effective communication plays a crucial role in shaping perceptions, building trust, and fostering understanding between organizations and their stakeholders. Perceptions, whether positive or negative, significantly impact how stakeholders view and interact with the regulator, and NARUC strongly recommends that utility regulatory commissions across the world implement communications strategies. With this in mind, we invite you to learn about how the Moldovan regulator is working to enhance the country’s energy security and resilience as well as increase transparency and communication with the public through USAID U.S.-Europe Energy Bridge and NARUC support: https://bit.ly/4fwtTmA #moldova #communications #energysector #energysecurity

Last week, the Moyle interconnector tripped when transferring 442 MW from Great Britain to Ireland. Excess generation after the trip in Great Britain resulted in an increase in frequency, whereas the frequency fell in Ireland. Without any intervention, consumers and businesses could have seen their electricity supply disrupted. 😲 👉 However, our battery assets in Ireland increased their power output to support the Irish network frequency, while in Great Britain, our Greener Grid Park technology ensured the GB network remained stable. 🙌 This event was a real-life example of how our innovative projects are playing a vital role in keeping the networks on both sides of the Irish Sea stable, preventing supply disruption to consumers. 👏 ➡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/dUpdwGH4
