Next week on Thursday 25th, I am honored to provide a Thought-Leadership presentation at #IPF in New Orleans, the US premier offshore wind energy network event, organized by my fantastic colleagues from the Oceantic Network. The recent challenges and delays in offshore wind contracting have demonstrated the fragility of the current approach to structuring energy offtake. Reaching this inflection point has reinforced the need to reconsider traditional market designs, especially as new solicitations draw nearer. I will therefore focus in my presentation on the potential to balance #sustainability metrics and social concerns with traditional financial measures, using a sample case of a Mid-Atlantic project. I hope attendees will leave with an understanding of current market designs, global benchmarks, novel ways to incorporate sustainability, and the challenges that remain to be solved. And obviously, I look very much forward to reflections and feedback on the topic, as we need all hands on deck to push the topic sustainability more into novel market designs across the offshore wind sector. Hope to see you next week in New Orleans. If you have not yet signed up for it, here you go: https://lnkd.in/eDmnWuks #PartnerForSustainableChange, #DecarbForNetZero, #ramboll, #offshorewind

In our newest blog post I wrote on the importance of transmission infrastructure to support New Jersey's growing offshore wind industry. 🌊⚡ "Offshore wind is essential to growing New Jersey’s economy, hitting clean energy goals, and improving grid reliability. This transmission infrastructure project is a critical piece of that puzzle, reducing both the need to separately construct transmission lines for each individual project and the costs of bringing offshore wind power to customers’ homes."
Yesterday, at New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ stakeholder meeting, United’s Kathleen Mettle testified in favor of a prebuild infrastructure solicitation to connect 3,742 MW of offshore wind power to the grid in New Jersey—making the case for reducing costs and speeding up #CleanEnergy deployment. 2024: A Breakthrough Year for U.S. Offshore Wind Industry Tomorrow (August 13) at 1:00 PM ET, I will join American Clean Power Association (ACP)'s #PowerCast which will discuss the recent developments in the #US #offshorewind sector. The webinar will take point of departure in #ACP's #2024 #Offshorewind market report which will be presented by ACP's director of market intelligence, Kelsey Hallahan. Moira Cyphers, Director of Atlantic Offshore State Affairs, will share how state policies are driving offshore wind developments. I will put the trends of the US offshore wind market in a global context and share Wood Mackenzie's reflections on the market headwinds. The ESO has published it's "Beyond 2030" report (a bit catchier than tCSNP), outlining the proposed network plan out to 2035 building upon the previously published HND in 2022. Facilitates the connection of additional 21GW of offshore wind. Outline additional investment of £58bn in transmission infrastructure across GB (in addition to existing investment to 2030). However, the challenges remain the same, with the requirement to provide clear policy and regulatory frameworks that enable investment and accelerate delivery of projects through development and construction. #notransitionwithouttransmission https://lnkd.in/eeXTEcQJ

Cooperative investment plans in (Northern) European: some steps taken on technology standardisation, interstate planning synchronicity, regulatory alignment. Dimmer focus on supply markets….
While U.S. grid operators are still thinking about the possibility of interregional transmission planning, including for offshore wind generation, the European Grid operators are showing us the way. I have previously pointed out ENTSO-E's holistic, mulit-value, Europe-wide Ten Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP): https://lnkd.in/egnpNEXj They now have published the first Offshore Network Development Plan (ONDP)! A set of 8 reports provide an overview and details on methodology used, stakeholder engagement, and the initial 2040 and 2050 offshore transmission plans for five ocean regions: Northern Seas, Baltic Sea, Atlantic, Mediteranean, and Black Sea. 🌍 Europe's energy-intensive industries are joining forces with the #windpower sector. Four major industry associations have joined forces to extend the EU's #GreenDeal with a "strategic industry deal". 🌀 On the one hand, the proposed pact is intended to accelerate the expansion of wind power. 🏭 On the other hand, the new deal should strengthen Europe as an industrial location. https://lnkd.in/e7yujKr9

It is always good to have a plan. HVDC will be a masterpiece and gives great benefit for grid stability. Combined with other tools like synchronous condenser and STATCOMs we will manage it. Siemens Energy has all the tools available or if you show us the demand we can develop them. All this takes time therefore again it is good to have a plan. Something on short notice is impossible. #gridstability #teampurple #transmission
