The ESO has published it's "Beyond 2030" report (a bit catchier than tCSNP), outlining the proposed network plan out to 2035 building upon the previously published HND in 2022. Facilitates the connection of additional 21GW of offshore wind. Outline additional investment of £58bn in transmission infrastructure across GB (in addition to existing investment to 2030). However, the challenges remain the same, with the requirement to provide clear policy and regulatory frameworks that enable investment and accelerate delivery of projects through development and construction. #notransitionwithouttransmission https://lnkd.in/eeXTEcQJ

Today the ESO published their "Beyond 2030" report, which represents another important milestone in the plans for The Great Grid Upgrade and a vital step towards enabling the energy transition. The report sets out the need for additional electrical network investment to be delivered at pace to achieve a 2035 zero carbon electricity grid to enable a total GB capacity of ~85GW of offshore wind. Some highlights from the report below; ⚡️ A new ‘electrical spine’ comprising of network upgrades to existing infrastructure, and targeted new lines to enable this 🏗️ A significant uplift in offshore networks to coordinate offshore wind, providing further opportunities to integrate international sources 👷♀️ An estimated £15bn infrastructure boost to the economy, and 20,000 green jobs supported. This report represents significant input from teams within ESO, Scottish Power Transmission, SSEN Transmission, and National Grid Electricity Transmission, but rightly highlights further development is required to evolve the maturity of the recommendations. I look forward to collectively working to develop and refine these proposals – engagement with customers and communities sits at the heart of this work!

We welcome the National Grid ESO's report Beyond 2030 which calls for a £58bn investment in the UK's #grid infrastructure to connect a further 21GW of #offshore wind from the Scotwind lease round and potentially a total of 86GW of offshore wind to meet future #electricity demand and deliver a fully #decarbonized electricity system by 2035. While the report recognises the scale of the challenge ahead this is a clear signal to the industry that the UK intends to remain a leader in #offshore wind through significant #investment to keep pace with renewable generation. Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/ejBcxdp7 An increasing portion of offshore wind projects will utilise floating platforms where Gazelle’s groundbreaking mooring system and unique floater design, in offering reduced costs and rapid deployment, can play a central role in enabling the UK’s 2035 #decarbonized system goals. #FloatingOffshoreWind #CleanEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #OffshoreWind #GazelleWindPower #UK #Investment

Last week, we published a decision on the Offshore Revenue Model applied to the EirGrid Group for its offshore activities. This decision marks a key milestone in the development of the regulatory framework for Ireland’s offshore ambitions. It gives a platform for facilitating investment in the offshore grid, which is needed to deliver Ireland’s Net Zero ambitions and ensures that this is achieved efficiently and with the interests of electricity consumers. This decision enables EirGrid to raise the capital that it needs to finance its investment in the offshore network and ensures transparency and effective performance from EirGrid in the delivery of its new offshore activities. This decision will also help support Ireland’s ambitious targets and timing schedules for the development of the offshore wind sector. This morning National Grid ESO published the 'Beyond 2030' report which proposes a £58 billion investment in the electricity grid to meet the growing and decarbonising demand for electricity in Great Britain by 2035 🤝 🌬 The Plan connects a further 21GW of offshore wind in development off the coast of Scotland to the grid. This would mean that there would be 86 GW of offshore wind, making Britain a global leader in offshore wind and floating offshore windfarms. 🔌 It includes a recommendation for a new high-capacity electrical spine from the North East of Scotland, through to the North West of England. This being a stepping-stone to the Centralised Strategic Network Plan to be published in 2026. Find the report here: https://lnkd.in/enqF3wiW #netzero #infrastructure #decarbonisation

The results are in from the Sixth Allocation Round (AR6) of the UK Government's Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme. A record number of low carbon electricity generation projects received CfDs across emerging and mature technologies. With no offshore wind project bids in the previous allocation round, notably AR6 has seen a rebound in this sector. Six offshore wind projects (fixed foundations) secured almost 5GW of capacity and there was a 400MW capacity award for a commercial scale floating wind project to deliver electrification to Scottish North Sea oil and gas platforms. Onshore wind projects also received allocations and this sector is seeing renewed focus in the new Government’s net zero plans. With the Government's ambitious 2030 goals in the balance, the focus now shifts to next year’s Seventh Allocation Round (AR7) and how that will play out.
