#SoberingNews A great accomplishment for The Medical Sobering Center at the Gateway Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This month, the #SoberingCenter will begin 24 hour a day operations with the capacity to help up to 50 patients at a time. As Mayor Tim Keller said at a news conference, "...We’re going to open this up and get people to help they need, even during this freezing, cold time of year when we need it most”. Is my perspective the whole story? or do I need to #CheckMyBias?💚 🌟 Let’s break down barriers and build bridges of understanding! Practicing empathy means seeing the world through someone else’s lens. Take a moment to listen, learn, and understand the challenges others face from their perspective. Just remember when your considering your position about forced treatment, addiction and mental illness is a very grey area with no clear consensus on what it actually is. Currently we define Alcohol use disorder (AUD) involves frequent or heavy alcohol drinking that becomes difficult to control and leads to problems such as in relationships, work, school, family, or other areas. Who gets to define if it causes problems in the family your ex-wife? Frequent drinking: For most men, that's defined as more than 4 drinks a day, or 14 or 15 in a week. For women, heavy drinking is more than 3 drinks in a day, or 7 or 8 per week.

Some may want to know about the negative studies. So read below. No CBC did not interview the authors of the paper. Important to note outside children I don’t think involuntary alone is enough. Nor do I think harm reduction alone is enough. Nor do I think treatment centres alone is enough. Nor do I think detox centres alone is enough. Nor do I think housing alone is enough. We need a system of care with access points throughout and a strong safety net for longitudinal care and supports for rehabilitation AND habilitation. This is more complex than arguing simple single measures!

Good piece on Tomislav Majic’s clinic and team, helping people with post-psychedelic difficulties in Berlin (and online). How come there’s no medical clinic for post psychedelic difficulties like this in the US?

Day 18 of #Gratitude5: Celebrating 5 Years of Growth 🌟 Teletherapy Meets Apraxia: Jefferson’s Journey 🌟 For nearly three years, I’ve been honored to work with Jefferson Isac, a resilient 9-year-old with severe childhood apraxia of speech (CAS). This video offers a glimpse into one of our teletherapy sessions, where we focus on mastering calabaza (“pumpkin”) using blocked practice to support motor planning. #Apraxia is a motor speech disorder where the brain struggles to coordinate precise movements for speech, even when the child knows exactly what they want to say. Therapy involves breaking down those movements and practicing them intensively to build new motor pathways. Living in #CostaRica, Jefferson faced significant challenges accessing specialized therapy. Through #teletherapy, he’s been able to receive consistent, tailored treatment in Spanish—something that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Teletherapy is building new bridges in healthcare. #ApraxiaTherapy #MotorPlanning #SpeechTherapyJourney #ApraxiaAwareness #BilingualTherapy #SLPInternational #CostaRicaSLP
