The Battery Pass Consortium has published its updated Content Guidance on the EU battery passport. The battery passport is a digital product passport mandated by the new EU Battery Regulation, which entered into force in August 2023 and aims to support the European Union's twin transition towards a digital and green economy.    The updated Content Guidance includes new insights from the continued work of the Consortium and reflects the final contents of the final Battery Regulation. It provides guidance on reporting requirements for responsible economic actors of the battery passport and other participants along the battery value chain. It is also relevant for the broader battery passport ecosystem, including standard development organisations and regulators.    The Battery Pass project, with co-funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), aims to enable increased sustainability and circularity in the battery industry. The Content Guidance, which is an essential element of the project, was initially launched at Hannover Messe in April 2023.    It aggregates, interprets, and assesses the content requirements mandated by the EU Battery Regulation. A trio of manufacturing-oriented research initiatives, led by the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (#NMIS), have received a £14 million funding boost through the Glasgow City Region Innovation Accelerator programme. The three projects aim to accelerate productivity and sustainability across local manufacturing and engineering specialists, with smaller businesses working alongside partners including Boeing, SSE Renewables, Howden, Thales, and Babcock. The projects are supported with £5.4m from the UK government, and up to £8.6m from industry partners. One project, ReMake Glasgow, will see a first-of-its-kind national ReMake hub developed at NMIS’ flagship facility next to Glasgow Airport, within the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland. The second NMIS-led project, Data Driven Design and Manufacturing Colab, will explore the potential of data science to solve real-world manufacturing problems and boost productivity. The third initiative, named #Stratellite, led by the NMIS Lightweight Manufacturing Centre (LMC), taps into Scotland’s growing satellite manufacturing sector and focuses on an innovative reconfigurable, modular, and scalable production system developed by the LMC. Meet Prof. Bantval Jayant Baliga: The Innovator Behind IGBT, Powering the Global Green Revolution 🔴Professor Bantval Jayant Baliga of North Carolina State University is the inventor, developer, and commercializer of the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT). 🔴The IGBT has enabled the global green transition by making electrification and the use of renewable energy efficient and profitable. 🔴Since its development in the 1980s, the IGBT has been the most important semiconductor device for making electrical energy use and petrol consumption more efficient and less polluting. 🔴Over the past 30 years, the IGBT has reduced global carbon dioxide emissions by over 82 gigatons (180 trillion pounds). 🔴This reduction is equivalent to offsetting carbon dioxide emissions from all human activity for three years, based on the average of the past 30 years. 🔴The IGBT is used globally in applications such as: 📍Wind and solar power installations 📍Electric and hybrid-electric cars 📍Medical diagnostic machines (X-Ray, CAT scanners, MRI units) 📍Microwave ovens and induction stoves 📍Air-conditioning and refrigeration 📍Portable defibrillators 📍IGBT-based power converters and inverters dominate nearly every major application with a power rating between 1kW and 10MW in green hydrogen production. 🔴Professor Baliga is the winner of the 2024 Millennium Technology Prize, recognizing his contribution to global sustainability and the green energy revolution. #Innovation #IGBT #GreenHydrogen #GreenEnergy #Sustainability #GlobalTransition #CleanTech #ClimateAction #CO2Reduction #RenewableEnergy #TechForGood #IITM https://lnkd.in/g4PtfAfW
