What an incredible turnout from #TeamRWE at Oceantic Network’s #IPF2024. We had 9 employees participate in events, sharing their knowledge with other #offshore wind industry experts, as we all work together to create a cleaner future. It also serves as a moment to take a step back and appreciate the growth in the offshore wind industry. In just a year’s time, the U.S. offshore wind industry has advanced leaps and bounds from planning, to installation, and now operations. Steel is in the water, power is being delivered to shore, and the market is brimming with the promise of more projects still to come. We have 6 GW in our offshore development pipeline, and we have plans for more across the United States coasts. We’re working together with local communities and doing our part to make sure we bring more than just clean energy. We want to ensure that we create local jobs and promote economic growth across the U.S.
What an incredible #IPF2024 organized by Oceantic Network. Thank you for putting on another great conference that brought together leaders and businesses from the #offshorewind energy industry. For me, a highlight was getting a chance to spend time with many RWE offshore employees, including several who contributed their expertise and perspective to the conference attendees throughout the week. I see the work they do day in and day out, so I’m always thrilled when they get the opportunity to share their passion, knowledge and experience with others. Amanda Lefton spoke during a plenary panel about the important progress the offshore wind industry in America has made in recent years and the opportunity ahead for regions across the country as it continues to scale. Enrico Schaefer gave a keynote speech for the inaugural FloatON summit on floating wind and how RWE sees this next important evolution in offshore wind taking place with the collaboration of public and private sector partners. Alexandra St. Pé represented RWE and our Gulf Coast development efforts at multiple industry events. Rick Robins participated in multiple discussions on how the offshore wind, fishing and seafood industries can successfully coexist. David Howard gave a project and procurement update on Community Offshore Wind as part of the “What’s New and Spinning” series. Deirdre Boelke talked about how scientific partnerships can strengthen responsible offshore wind development. Samantha Mullin, EIT represented RWE on a panel alongside other young professional leaders in the offshore wind industry. Cynthia Pyć spoke on a panel about permitting and the future of offshore wind in the Gulf of Mexico. Anthony Bodin led RWE’s partnership with KidWind Project, Inc. to spur the next generation of offshore wind enthusiasts to learn more about the industry. My major takeaway is that the offshore industry is continuing to build momentum. In the last year we have seen the first major U.S. projects come online, there are offshore projects under construction, and now over 10 GW of projects have been approved with more on the way. It’s an exciting time to be in #offshore wind!

If you’re attending IPF 2024 I highly recommend attending Ram’s session where he will be speaking on repurposing of infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore hydrogen. Ram and his graduates students have been working on techno-cost modeling for repurposing and spent a lot of time working with us in the industry to understand the issues, constraints, and most importantly, the potential that is here in GOM to re-use infrastructure that is nearing the end of its “first life” and still has useful life left to transition to a different purpose. #ipf2024 #energytransition #greenhydrogen

📸 The project exceeded expectations to results and pushed well beyond the state of the art. That’s according to Martin Guiton and Alexis Cousin from IFP Energies nouvelles in this second part of the HIPERWIND key findings and outcomes series. “The project has produced some significant reliability design procedures that are market-ready and thereby go beyond the research domain,” explains Martin in the video. His colleague Alexis adds: “Taking uncertainties into account we obtain a reduction of 21% of the mass of the wind turbine structure, which is a lot”. IFPEN is already using some of the #HIPERWIND results already. “For instance, it helps us to improve the chain modelling a lot when we quantify the fatigue loading on the wind turbines”, concludes Martin. Advanced fatigue loading quantification with modelling techniques is another achievement, replacing more simplified methods and validating them with real-world field measurements. Offshore Wind Life Extension: Shout out to all organisers & speakers at the @ORE Catapult event last week. Very topical and highly informative. [https://lnkd.in/eNDHYBTd] The impending publication of 61400-28 [Wind energy generation systems - Part 28: Through life management and life extension of wind power assets] should provide a vital benchmark to support this vital topic. Commercial scale offshore windfarms in the UK are nearing the end of their original design life. A range of key topics discussed covering life extension options [technical, regulatory and commercial.] Yes financial viability, regulatory/consenting & insurance considerations will be fundamental – my takeaways were more technical & risk focused. · Occupational Safety and Asset Integrity [Assessment & Control] are 2 sides of the same coin – they must be both thoroughly addressed. · Data [Quality & Quality] are the building blocks to make decisions. The selection of suitable direct or proxy leading and lagging indicators can help reduce uncertainty. · Think & Plan early: Due the data demands – the earlier in the life cycle you can prepare and plan for life extension the better. Katharine York Sally Lockwood Nicola Robinson Mark Spring A few of these themes will be picked up in our Safety in Renewables Masterclass on 16 October 2024 [Rakesh Maharaj][https://lnkd.in/eFkGNiBm.] DM me if interested.

The NextFloat+ Project secures €13,4 million ‘cornerstone grant’ from Innovation Fund to accelerate floating wind. Led by a consortium formed by X1 Wind, as project coordinator, alongside Technip Energies, it will involve the deployment of a 6MW floating wind platform at a test site in the Mediterranean Sea. The pre-commercial prototype, called ‘X90’, will demonstrate a cost-effective integrated system composed of a structurally efficient and lightweight floating platform with a SPM (Single Point Mooring) and a TLP (Tension Leg Platform), greatly reducing the seabed footprint impact. The cash injection will further advance industrialization and scale-up of the integrated floating wind solution at 20MW+ scale. For more details about this milestone, read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dTy7y3AK #FloatingOffshoreWind #OffshoreWind #NextFloat #InnovationFund CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency

Another really exciting step forward for #Hynamics and #edfrenewables on our joint Tees Green Hydrogen ecosystem. #efuels is a key sector for EDF worldwide and we will be at the forefront of this in the UK.
Good news for #Hynamics in the United-Kingdom 🎉 We are delighted to announce that we have secured #funding from the UK Government's Net Zero Hydrogen Fund (NZHF) to support us in completing feasibility studies for Tees Green Hydrogen Phase 3, in partnership with EDF Renewables UK & Ireland. 🤝 This phase would see a 200MW #electrolyser developed and deployed for an e-#methanol plant in Teesport, helping to decarbonise the UK maritime sector. This support from the UK Government, including the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, demonstrates the confidence placed in our ability to deliver this transformative project. This advancement reinforces our commitment to the decarbonization of industry in the United-Kingdom North East region. 🔗 For more information, visit https://ow.ly/7Vvw50QIjfb
