Fireworks & the 4th July This circular is advice for the 4th July Holidays concerning fireworks and road safety. Keep safety and respect at the top of mind this Fourth of July. As Independence Day approaches, many of us plan to attend fireworks displays, a backyard picnic, or perhaps enjoy fun at the beach. In addition, remember not everyone loves fireworks. The loud noises and flashing lights from fireworks can induce real stress on children and adults with sensory sensitivities, such as Autism, and mental and emotional disorders such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Here are some tips to help make your July 4 safe and enjoyable for all The following advice offers these tips so you can enjoy a fun-packed, safe holiday courtesy of The American Red Cross, FEMA, National Council On Fireworks Safety, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Some simple safety tips include: • Have a plan when attending large gatherings to ensure you know where to meet up if you get separated from friends or family. • Monitor the weather; download the FEMA App to receive weather alerts for areas you will be visiting. • Drink plenty of water – even if you do not feel thirsty. • Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles. • Check on family, friends, and neighbors who do not have air-conditioning and spend much of their time alone. FIREWORKS SAFETY The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public firework show put on by professionals. Stay at least 500 feet away from the show. Many states outlaw most fireworks. Leave any area immediately where untrained amateurs are using fireworks. At home If you are setting fireworks off at home, follow these safety steps: • Obey all local laws regarding the use of fireworks. • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from children and pets. • Know your fireworks; read the cautionary labels and performance descriptions before igniting. Always follow the instructions on the packaging. • A responsible adult SHOULD supervise all firework activities. • Never give fireworks to children. • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Save your alcohol for after the show. • Make sure the person lighting fireworks always wears eye protection – Safety Glasses!. IF you need safety glasses, ASK (and return them to us after!) • Light one firework at a time and then quickly move away. • Use fireworks OUTDOORS in a clear area; away from buildings and vehicles and never throw or point a firework toward people, animals, vehicles, structures or flammable materials.. • Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water. • Always have a bucket of water and charged water hose nearby. • Never carry fireworks in your POCKET or shoot them into METAL or GLASS containers. • Do not experiment with homemade fireworks. • Dispose of spent fireworks by wetting them down and place in a metal t

Just received this 3/5 star review on the Get Your Guide platform when all other reviews were 5/5. I am sorry that the customer who booked this tour felt this was an appropriate review to leave, especially as the male guest had complimented my tour at the end. Usually I get criticised for my tours taking too long😀 and happy to learn from feedback if it is justified. Unfortunately unlike other review platforms Get Your Guide does not offer its suppliers the right to reply publicly so for the benefit of other customers who may see the review I would reply as follows: My private tour takes over 2 hours for groups of up to 15 guests. A group of 2 tends to do the tour more quickly than a large group. The wind was very strong that day on the section between Bishops Gate and Butchers Gate so for the customers comfort and safety we walked more quickly than normal but still covered all the key points including a photo on Double Bastion. At the time I understood that the customers appreciated this and did not want to linger longer in such strong winds. When we reached Guildhall Square I offered to walk them across the Peace Bridge too but they declined due to the strong wind preferring the warmth of the Guildhall and I advised I was no longer permitted to guide in that building. Of course I promote my tours at the end - I am not an employee of Get Your Guide it is a platform for selling tours to online customers (for which they take a commission- hence the higher price) and the male customer even bought one of the history books - I offer but do not do a hard sell. Disappointed that they would choose to leave this public review but at least I have now been able to explain these issues for the benefit of other potential customers. #derriedanders #embraceagiantspirit #getyourguide

Sometimes you end up in places that can hold you back. And what a strange place to have a strong chain... I was visiting a hotel a few months back and saw this oddity. No, not me. The chain across this area. I take the stairs at hotels: 1. It helps me stay in shape 2. Some elevators are way too slow for my liking And at the base floor of one stairwell was this little nook. You typically see them store excess tables or chairs. But this one had a large chain across it. And it is a serious sized chain and connectors to the wall! What do you think they were "protecting" or trying to hold back? There were no signs. So I used it as a "time out" area. Which is why I have the face on. 😜 Look around your environment and see what you can learn. By paying attention to details, we can uncover hidden insights and opportunities. Don't let valuable lessons pass you by; take a moment to understand the "why" behind what you see and leverage that knowledge to create new possibilities. 🌟 #Observation #Opportunities #LearningFromEnvironment
