Adaptation to Climate Change = Economic Growth = Engineering Innovation Cities with low tax bases and those that are not business-friendly will be more vulnerable to natural and human hazards – nothing new there. Low-income cities around the world often fail to properly identify their level of exposure and vulnerability, as well as the degree of risk ($$) needed to effectively reduce future disaster damages when they occur. While some argue that international aid should address the challenges faced by low-income cities, I believe it’s more beneficial to focus on developing financial independence and building high-skill capacities to address their own issues. Relying solely on the willingness of others is not a sustainable solution. The catastrophic mindset tends to focus on responding after the fact. However, to minimize economic and human losses, we need financial independence, long-term planning, strong leadership, and decisive action. Financial intelligence brings practicality and realism to problem-solving, distinct from dreams, wishes, and good intentions that often lead to utopian or dystopian scenarios detached from scientific methods. Grit, hard work, intellectualism, and human innovation remain crucial for shaping a positive future amidst the current narrative of darkness we all face. #Adaptation #Cities #Financial #Risk #Disasterreduction #ClimateChange #problemSolving #Scientificmethod

“If the default setting of our economies and our societies put well-being first and staying within planetary boundaries was codified in law, policy, investment practice, and business practice, I wouldn’t need to write this blog. But it isn’t, so I do. If the richest 10% lived like the European middle class, we would be moving in the right direction. Moving to a well-being economy under degrowth principles would move us even farther in the right direction.” #degrowth #postgrowth
