Adaptation to Climate Change = Economic Growth = Engineering Innovation Cities with low tax bases and those that are not business-friendly will be more vulnerable to natural and human hazards – nothing new there. Low-income cities around the world often fail to properly identify their level of exposure and vulnerability, as well as the degree of risk ($$) needed to effectively reduce future disaster damages when they occur. While some argue that international aid should address the challenges faced by low-income cities, I believe it’s more beneficial to focus on developing financial independence and building high-skill capacities to address their own issues. Relying solely on the willingness of others is not a sustainable solution. The catastrophic mindset tends to focus on responding after the fact. However, to minimize economic and human losses, we need financial independence, long-term planning, strong leadership, and decisive action. Financial intelligence brings practicality and realism to problem-solving, distinct from dreams, wishes, and good intentions that often lead to utopian or dystopian scenarios detached from scientific methods. Grit, hard work, intellectualism, and human innovation remain crucial for shaping a positive future amidst the current narrative of darkness we all face. #Adaptation #Cities #Financial #Risk #Disasterreduction #ClimateChange #problemSolving #Scientificmethod

📌 At a time when the world needs bold action, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and the UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience (SDU_Resilience) are shining a light on the urgent need for urban climate finance to drive transformative change. 💡 The latest findings reveal that among the 26 nationally-determined contributions (NDCs) that include urban climate finance components, around $30-43 billion USD are needed to realize action implementation. Yet, this number represents only 13% of global NDCs—with just 20% demonstrating moderate to strong urban content. To close this gap, we need: ✅ A systematic approach to embedding urban priorities in NDCs. ✅ Expanded research on climate finance needs and opportunities at all levels. Cities are essential to solving the climate crisis—but they need the tools, data, and funding to lead. Together, we can build the foundations for a climate-resilient urban future.
