Ischemic Stroke Occurs when a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain is obstructed. It accounts for 87% of all strokes. Hemorrhagic Stroke Occurs when a weakened blood vessel ruptures. The two types of weakened blood vessels that usually cause hemorrhagic stroke are aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations .The most common cause of hemorrhagic stroke is uncontrolled high blood pressure. Transient Ischemic Attack Is a “warning stroke” caused by a temporary clot. Take this warning sign for stroke seriously . Cryptogenic Stroke In most cases, clots that block blood flow to the brain cause a stroke. Sometimes, the cause of a stroke can’t be determined. This is called a cryptogenic stroke. Brain Stem Stroke When stroke occurs in the brain stem, it can affect both sides of the body and may leave a person in a “locked-in” state. When a locked-in state occurs, the patient is generally unable to speak or move below the neck. #recoverytech #stroke #healthcare

Hey connections! Here am happy to share my article 'stroke' #snsinstitution #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking #stroke Stroke - Symptoms and causes An ischemic stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is blocked or reduced. This prevents brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. Stroke: The sudden death of brain cells due to lack of oxygen, caused by blockage of blood flow or rupture of an artery to the brain. The five types of stroke you're most likely to hear about are ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, transient ischemic attack (also called TIA or mini-stroke), cryptogenic stroke, and brainstem stroke.

No, that is not a worm inside the heart. 🪱 The mobile, vermiform structure that you’re seeing is a left ventricular thrombus… or simply put, a clot in the heart. It formed due to areas of stasis within the heart, secondary to poor contractility of the heart muscles. In those areas where blood tend to “puddle together”, tiny, or sometimes huge, clots can form (a contributing factor to Virchow’s triad). So what? 🤷🏻♂️ Well, those clots can fly off and embolize elsewhere. And when they do, it’s a clinical disaster. It can choke up vessels in the brain 🧠(stroke), eyes 👀(blindness) or even intestines (ischaemic bowel). That’s why stroke neurologists routinely work up their patients with a 2D echocardiogram. It’s to pick up uncommon causes such as this. A clot in the heart. Sometimes the clot forms in the upper chambers of the heart due to atrial fibrillation. The mechanism is similar. However, those can only be picked up by transesophageal echocardiogram, a more specialized modality when a probe needs to be introduced into the gullet to obtain cardiac images from inside the body. 📸 “Worms” in the heart can be dangerous. We, as echocardiologists, work closely with the stroke neurologists to ensure conditions like cardioembolic sources are not missed, and if detected, are treated promptly. #lvthrombus #cardioembolism #stroke #echocardiogram #echo

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. A Stroke affects your Brain. There are 2 types of Strokes: 1. An Ischemic stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of your brain is blocked or reduced. 2. Another type of stroke is called a hemorrhagic stroke. It occurs when a blood vessel in the brain leaks or bursts and causes bleeding in the brain. The blood increases pressure on Brain cells and damages them. A STROKE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. It’s important to get medical treatment quickly as it can reduce Brain damage and other stroke complications. #stroke #brainhealth #CarePatrolCares https://lnkd.in/enDkbZmt

Stroke is a silent killer and can strike anytime. A stroke occurs when part of the brain loses its blood supply and stops working. Also called a Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) or "Brain Attack." The types of strokes include: Ischemic stroke (part of the brain loses blood flow) & Hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding occurs within the brain). 3 types of strokes: Ischemic strokes occur when blood vessels that supply the brain become obstructed, leading to the formation of blood clots. The main culprit is cerebral thrombosis, typically caused by fatty deposits known as atherosclerosis. Additionally, blood vessels may be obstructed by clots that originate in other parts of the body and travel to the brain; this condition is referred to as cerebral embolism, which is often linked to irregular heartbeats like atrial fibrillation. Haemorrhagic strokes happen when a weakened blood vessel bursts, resulting in bleeding within the brain and heightened pressure on nearby tissue. The causes include: Aneurysm: A bulging of a weakened blood vessel that may rupture if not addressed. Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM): A tangle of incorrectly formed blood vessels that can also burst, leading to bleeding. A Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), commonly referred to as a mini-stroke, happens when there is a temporary interruption in blood flow to the brain. This leads to symptoms that resemble those of a stroke, but they usually resolve within 24 hours. It is essential to contact emergency services during a TIA, as it can be challenging to differentiate it from a stroke in the initial stages. Those who experience a TIA are at an increased risk of having additional TIAs or a full-blown stroke, and they should seek medical advice to explore underlying causes and treatment options. The risk factors for TIAs are similar to those associated with strokes, and experiencing a TIA can also elevate the long-term risk of developing dementia. #WorldStrokeDay #WorldStrokeDay2024 #NationalStrokeWeek #NationalStrokeWeek2024 #GreaterThanStroke #Stroke #StrokeSurvivor #StrokeRecovery #StrokeAwareness #StrokeRehab #ActFast #StrokeDay

May is National Stroke Awareness Month. Have you or someone you know had a stroke? A stroke, also known as a cerebrovascular accident, is a disease that affects the arteries leading to and within the brain which can deprive the brain of oxygen by either blood clots or ruptures of an artery. Different types of strokes can occur. The most common type of stroke is an ischemic stroke which is essentially a blood clot occurring within the arteries, causing a lack of blood supply to the brain cells. The second type of stroke is called a hemorrhagic stroke. This occurs when the artery walls are too weak to support blood flow and cause a rupture/bleed within the brain. https://lnkd.in/d4J85fd8

https://lnkd.in/diui5JTZ To remember the H's and T's in the context of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), you can use this mnemonic song set to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star": **"Hypovolemia, lack of flow, Hypoxia, oxygen's low. Hyper or hypokalemia, watch for these, Hypothermia, freezing breeze.** **Tension pneumo, chest so tight, Tamponade, heart's in a fight. Thrombosis, clots block the way, Toxins, trouble every day.** **Hypoglycemia, sugar's fall, These H’s and T’s, we recall."**
