At Neighborhood Centers, we celebrate the small moments that make a big impact. These preschool friends recently had a fun conversation about whether losing the same tooth makes them twins! 🦷 It's these everyday conversations that highlight the importance of early learning and connection in our programs. What are some memorable moments you've experienced with children in your life or work? Share with us in the comments! #NCJCIowa #EarlyLearning

The Role of the guide is transformative. Montessori guides create a prepared environment, tailored to the needs and interests of each child. They observe, facilitate, and gently guide children towards independence, fostering a deep love for learning. This approach cultivates curiosity, critical thinking, and social skills in a nurturing, respectful atmosphere. Empowering children to be their best selves, one discovery at a time. #MontessoriGuide #ChildLedLearning #MontessoriEducation #EarlyChildhoodEducation

This is exactly what we should change in Early Childhood “Education”
“They didn’t teach me anything!” Want to evaluate the quality of your child’s preschool? You could hardly ask for a better endorsement than this one, captured at the end of a three-year-old’s first day of school. In fact, if you visit a classroom and find a preschool teacher lecturing - or children hunched over desks, all engaged in the same teacher-directed activity - run for the hills. That’s because young children don’t learn in the same way older children do. They learn through play. They learn through interaction. They learn through discovery and exploration; through trial and error. The best early childhood teachers are rarely the center of attention in their classrooms. They aren’t there to lecture and drill, but to observe, plan, guide, question, and support the needs of each individual child. Never confuse a lack of stereotypical “teaching” in these classrooms for a lack of LEARNING. Or rigor. Indeed, high quality early childhood classrooms are learning laboratories second only to the home in terms of their life-changing potential. And if your child doesn’t come home covered in paint once in a while, or with grass stains on their pants, you’ve probably chosen the wrong program. Instead look for an endorsement like our hero’s: They didn’t teach me anything, but I had fun. And maybe tomorrow there will be more time to talk about possums. This happy little learner was shared to TT by carliewinkels. #earlychildhood #earlyyears #eyfs #parenting

Teaching preschoolers how to be humane is an important aspect of their development and a way to ensure that future generations live in a better world. Here are some effective ways to instill these values in young children: 1. Help children identify and understand the feelings of others. Encourage them to consider how their actions may impact others and how they would feel in similar situations. 2. Teach them to treat all living beings, including animals and plants, with kindness and respect. 3. Use storybooks and narratives to introduce children to concepts of kindness, compassion, and empathy. 4. Encourage your preschoolers to engage in acts of kindness, such as sharing toys, helping a friend, or comforting someone upset. Be sure to praise and acknowledge their efforts to reinforce positive behavior. 5. Encourage children to express gratitude for the things they have and the people who care for them. Create an inclusive environment where all children feel valued and accepted in a humane and caring society. #earlyyears #earlylearning #earlychildhooddevelopment #dearteacherseries #profgeedee
