The #CivilSocietyCovenant represents time for positive change and great potential between charities and public bodies. But history tells us that the Covenant must embrace inclusion and real, practical ways of working : https://lnkd.in/eKG7WtiK

𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐨'𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 After a week spent volunteering at a well-known festival in Winchester (to raise money for Shelter - you can chip in at their website if you'd like to), and another week to recover, our Director Harriet Shone is thrilled to be back and headlining this week's SHW. One thing of interest the Social Housing Weekly team has picked up is the news that there is something of a night of the long knives happening in Whitehall with Tory-appointed non-executive directors facing the chop. We'll keep an eye on any particularly important sackings for the sector and report back. In the meantime, read on for our assessment of possible solutions to the housing crisis, and more! ➡️ https://shorturl.at/fVjwU Donate to Shelter here: https://shorturl.at/9pjKH Jesse Peacock Harriet Shone Peter Lord

👋🏽According to a new report published by The Centre for Social Justice, 79% of UK adults agree that small, local, charities seem to be often overlooked and under-resourced. ❌Whilst the work that we do at Purple Shoots is vast and expansive, making a big impact in communities up and down the UK, we cannot continue to make a difference that matches the level of need for our services without financial backing. 📖Over the next few days, we'll be sharing stats from this report which shows the very urgent need to support small, local charities to be seen and resourced and the impact that being ignored has on the people who need our help the most. 💷To read more about the work that we do and to donate to Purple Shoots on a monthly basis, head to: https://lnkd.in/gHC4FPWe 👀You can read the report in full by heading to https://lnkd.in/eXVbSDf5

The Commissioning Process Disadvantages Small Charities Our Regional Manager Gary Beharrell speaks with Civil Society Media Ltd about how small charities are at the mercy of the commissioning process. "While the whole commissioning process has been designed in a way that disadvantages small charities, it can be improved through more collaborative working. "Many of the commissioning processes I hear about are complex, with mountains of paperwork, and short timeframes for completing applications. "Larger organisations have the resources to hire teams dedicated to bidding on these types of contracts. "Not the small local organisation who are at capacity already, everyone involved in delivery and no one to complete the required paperwork for commissioners." In a new report, we explore the challenges facing older people in Scotland, and how an Older People's Commissioner would change the systems that are letting everyone down as they age. We've heard how older people are left feeling powerless and voiceless, and confused about who represents their interests in the Scottish Government. It’s vital that policymakers fully understand the range of issues this group faces. With the support of 35 Scottish charities, we believe a #VoiceForLaterLife – which exists in Wales and Northern Ireland – could improve policies to create a better later life for everyone.
