The NEC Group’s aspirations then and now: From C&C to social value innovator 🖊 In 1977, then-Chairman Koji Kobayashi unveiled the concept of C&C (Computers & Communications), which refers to the integration of computer and communications technologies, in his keynote speech at a major communications exhibition held in the U.S. city of Atlanta. 💡 In 1982, the Harvard Business School in the U.S. selected NEC's C&C strategy as a case study material, and invited Chairman Kobayashi to deliver a special commemorative lecture on December 6 of the same year. NTT Corporation, NTT EAST, NTT WEST, and NEC Corporation have developed a system that integrates optical fiber sensing with the Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (#IOWN) All-Photonics Network (#APN) to enable wide-area #trafficflowmonitoring. The role of each company is as follows, NTT: Devising and constructing a connection configuration to provide sensing functions to IOWN APNs; NTT EAST: Calibration of vehicle speed and vehicle count position; NTT WEST: Selection of traffic vibration monitoring sites and selection and provision of facilities for demonstration tests and NEC & NEC Labs America: Provision of APN-G and implementation of optical fiber vibration measurement and vehicle speed analysis. This system was successfully tested in Osaka City, Japan, using existing underground optical fiber routes, allowing real-time visualization and analysis of traffic conditions. The optical fiber sensing technology offers a cost-effective, flexible, and rapid solution for urban monitoring expansion. Future research and collaboration aim to enhance this technology further, addressing social and regional issues through advanced urban monitoring capabilities. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ed2BUA5r
