Clean Energy Terminals is excited to share insights from Karly Lohan, Carolinas Program Manager for the Southeastern Wind Coalition. In her recent op-ed, Lohan highlights the transformative potential of offshore wind development for North Carolina. With the ability to power hundreds of thousands of homes with clean, affordable energy, offshore wind offers a stable and diverse power grid. It's time for energy providers to embrace this low-risk, cost-competitive option and invest in the future. As Clean Energy Terminals continue to develop offshore wind port projects, we're committed to harnessing this clean energy source to create jobs, drive local economic benefits, and provide a reliable energy solution. #OffshoreWind #CleanEnergy #EconomicGrowth #SustainableDevelopment Read more about the game-changing impact of offshore wind in NC here: greensboro.com

In Caldwell County, Texas, a groundbreaking event marked the beginning of construction for a new natural gas "peaker plant" in Maxwell, near San Marcos. This plant, the second of its kind in Texas, is designed to activate during peak grid demand periods, contributing an additional 380 megawatts of power to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid, sufficient to support about 38,000 homes. Managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority, the facility is expected to be operational by 2025, taking advantage of new incentives offered through the $10 billion Texas Energy Fund. The fund aims to support the completion of projects that address the state's growing power supply needs, with the Lower Colorado River Authority potentially earning $10-20 million in state incentives if completion targets are met. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the resilience and capacity of the Texas power grid following the catastrophic grid failure in February 2021. Over the last year, Texas has increased the ERCOT grid's capacity by 3,800 megawatts and plans to add another 7,300 megawatts in the upcoming year, significantly boosting the state's ability to meet the energy needs of over two million homes during peak periods. The push for additional "dispatchable" power sources, such as natural gas, which can be readily activated on demand, has been highlighted as essential to supplement the state's reliance on renewable energy sources like solar and wind, which are subject to variability based on weather conditions. https://lnkd.in/g8Pc23Jm

The path forward for Pacific US offshore wind is becoming clearer, although slowly While offshore wind is making big strides on the US East Coast, progress in the Pacific US has been more cautious. Despite the excellent wind speeds and strong political ambitions for a green energy transition, there are also challenges suggesting offshore wind development in the Pacific US is not expected pre-2035. The recent postponement of Oregon’s lease sale due to insufficient bidder interest highlights the limited short-term opportunities for offshore wind development in the Pacific US. California has taken the lead as the first mover in the region, but the future of planned lease sales in Oregon, Californi,a and Hawaii remain uncertain due to the upcoming presidential election. At Aegir Insights’ we have published a new Market Playbook giving an in-depth overview of the Pacific US offshore wind market, including: 🔹analyzing greenfield opportunities and auction timelines 🔹 offtake situation 🔹 market attractiveness and more.
