We recently had the pleasure of coming up with a new party name for Bronwen Bock and Lucinda Bradlow two trailblazing women redefining leadership in Australia’s Federal Parliament. They are running as the first-ever job-sharing candidates in the Senate under the #BetterTogetherParty for the 2025 Federal Election. To make history, they need just 1,500 founding members to join the Better Together Party. While they face challenges ahead, including a legal battle with the Australian Electoral Commission to allow two names on the form! they’re committed to making real change. The Better Together Party stands for action on climate change, tackling price gouging, addressing the cost-of-living crisis, solving the housing shortage, and implementing stronger integrity measures in parliament. Learn more about their policies at https://lnkd.in/gem5PV2f and if you support their vision, sign up and back the next generation of political leadership in Australia. 🔶 Continuing to build our message of a positive politics in East Dulwich. It was a weekend full of people desperate to move away from the negative, divisive politics threatening to dominate this year’s elections. 🗳 I want to bring some positivity back into a politics that has become almost unbearable. But not yet so unbearable that it’s not worth fighting for something better. 🧣 Great to also have our Mayor of London candidate Rob Blackie with us! Complete with pre-arranged matching scarf. We're focusing on three areas to begin with: 🌞 POSITIVE POLITICS: We can demand better. A positive politics built on freedom in a truly fair society, with real opportunity for everyone. That's what the Liberal Democrats stand for. Not the negative, divisive politics we’re currently surrounded by. 🌍 THE PLAN WE NEED FOR CLIMATE CHANGE: Detailed plans are a must for the climate and sustainability emergency. Not slogans and meaningless targets. ❓ LISTENING TO YOU: Committing to working with local people, communities, and organisations to ask, "what do you want?" Not, "what don't you want?" “We urgently need a countervision of what government can and should be, and how public resources and infrastructure can be deployed to foster social connection and repair the social fabric so that democracy can have a chance not just to limp along, but to flourish. Solidarity, here, is both a goal worth reaching toward and the method of building the power to achieve it. It is both means and ends, the forging of social bonds so that we can become strong enough to shift policy together.” - a must read by Leah Hunt-Hendrix and Astra Taylor. H/t M. There are many good people in the Green Party of England and Wales and some good ideas as well. But the party more than anything else is characterised by fringe Left identitarian politics. It’s so telling that the Scottish Greens fell out of government this week partly over a proposed pause on the use of gender-bending puberty blockers. Worse, the Greens appear increasingly to identify with those elements of the far Left which have become strangely in thrall to political Islamism, an ideology which stands in stark opposition to pretty much every progressive social value once espoused by the liberal Left. None of this ought to matter, except that the Greens present themselves as the obvious choice for the millions of voters across the political spectrum who wish to see stewardship of the natural environment placed highly up the political agenda before it’s too late. But this is not what the Greens are about. ‘Green’ politics across the West is now overwhelmingly preoccupied with thought-policing identity and gender politics, open borders, hard Left economics, Covid extremism, hatred of the World’s only (tiny) Jewish state, and related points of view which are remote or unappealing to all but the most Left-wing of voters. We either need a Green Party that is in love with the natural world, dedicated to reimagining our relationship within it, and accessible to mainstream voters from across the political spectrum; Or, we voters who care about the natural environment must work harder to pressure our mainstream political parties to be greener. (In this vein, I co-founded the Conservative Environment Network in 2010, and now there is a Labour Climate and Environment Forum too.) Because right now very many voters who care deeply about the greatest set of challenges of our time are short on electoral options. 🌳

Today, we commemorate the cornerstone of democracy - the people's power! Democracy is a celebration of diverse perspectives, a beacon of hope for marginalized voices, and a testament to human resilience. It's a reminder that our collective strength lies in our ability to come together, engage in constructive dialogue, and work towards a common goal. Let us honor the sacrifices made by democracy's champions, who have fought tirelessly to protect our rights and freedoms. From the suffragettes to the civil rights movement, from the struggle against apartheid to the ongoing fight for equality and justice, we stand on the shoulders of giants. As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us recommit to upholding democratic values: equality, justice, freedom, and representation. Let us promote inclusivity, amplify marginalized voices, and foster a culture of engagement and participation. Let us recognize that democracy is not a destination, but a journey - one that requires constant effort and dedication. Together, we can build a brighter future for all, where every voice is heard, every vote counts, and every individual has the opportunity to thrive. A future where our differences are celebrated, our diversity is embraced, and our shared humanity is recognized. So let us continue to strive for a world that is just, equitable, and free. A world where democracy is not just a system of governance, but a way of life. A world where the people's power is truly unleashed, and the human spirit can flourish in all its glory. #rpg #democracyday ##democracyinaction #freedomandequalityforall #participatorydemocracy

Why does the sophisticated, hip and “smart” party based in cities, colleges and now the suburbs too – the party of media, culture, and big business – support such obviously bad policies? The Left appears to be increasingly rejecting practical policies that make life more pleasant. Ideology isn’t created in a vacuum, of course. Where we live and what we do affect the ways we think; it’s not random chance that the urban Democratic party is imaginative and fanciful while the rural Republican party is pragmatic and traditional. https://lnkd.in/d2qJuCkP

The General Election... it's pretty much taken over everything at the moment, from tv to radio, the news and social media. Television schedules are all over the place as debates, interviews, party political broadcasts and Question Time specials dominate. It's the topic on everyone's lips, but until this point - young people haven't had much of an opportunity to engage 1-on-1 with political parties, candidates, or to have their voices heard. We just couldn't allow this! Young voices are so important as we plan ahead for our countries future. We rectified this by holding two election special events in our Changemaker Studio spaces in London and Portsmouth, inviting young people to come and meet with politicians from the leading parties in person, engage with them, talk face to face, and ask them the important questions relevant to their lives and futures. Last night was our London event in our Changemaker Studio space at City of Westminster College, and we were blessed to be joined by Helen Baxter for the Liberal Democrats, Georgia Gould for The Labour Party, Vivien Lichtenstein for The Green Party, Angela Michelle Carter-Begbie for Reform UK, Samia Hersi from the Conservative & Unionist party, and Irakli Menabde for the Workers Party of Britain. Our political representatives spoke openly about their policies, and genuinely listened and engaged with the young delegate's questions. What fantastic and memorable events these were, and so important to bring young people into politics, nurture their interests and changemaker skills, and raise awareness that the decisions that are being made now will impact upon their futures. Unloc's Managing Director Hayden Taylor said: "Wonderful to see so many party members and young changemakers turn out for this event, speaking face to face about the issues that matter to them on both sides. We've reached a new era . This is an engaged and passionate generation of young people who pro-actively take interest in the society we live in, and want to be a an energised part in making positive change." #GeneralElection #Voting #Politics #Politicians #YoungPeople #Students #Voters #Learning #Education #Debate #Political #Election2024 #GeneraElection2024 #YoungVoices #YoungLeaders #Labour #GreenParty #LiberalDemocrats #Conservative #ReformUK #WorkersParty #Colleges #University #Universities #College #Networking
