China appoints deputy foreign minister but Wang Yi's move to minister still remains a mystery. The difficult selection of the new foreign minister may be linked to the power position of Cai Qi, Xi's friend. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on the 14th that Chen Xiaodong, former ambassador to South Africa, will be appointed deputy minister of foreign affairs. As soon as the sessions of the National People's Congress of China (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) closed, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced on the 14th that Chen Xiaodong, former ambassador to South Africa, will be appointed vice minister of foreign affairs. However, it is not yet known whether Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will pass the baton and whether Liu Jianchao, minister of foreign affairs and liaison department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), will take over as foreign minister, which has been under debate since last year. Since the NPC has not yet taken up the case of the foreign minister's staff, insiders speculate that after the CCP leadership identifies the preferred candidate, further arrangements could be made only when the NPC Standing Committee meets in the near future. HRVP before the Foreign Affairs Council on Georgia “(…) Then, there is Georgia. Do not forget about Georgia. We are going to discuss the situation in Georgia and one thing is clear: the door for Georgia to become member of the European Union is open. But if the government continues on the same track, continues doing what they are doing, this door will be closed. And the Georgian people will pay the consequences, will suffer the fact that the European perspective will be diminished or even cancelled. We are talking about serious things. If things continue like this, the door to the European Union will not be open. And today, I [will] present an option paper to the ministers, explaining the different things that we can do in the short and medium term in order to make this not to continue in Georgia. “

Yerevan, Baku committed to agreements reached earlier — Pashinyan Nikol Pashinyan has said that following this meeting it was agreed that foreign ministers of the two countries would meet soon Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that one of the key results of his meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Saturday was the fact that the sides reiterated commitment to agreements reached earlier. "An important issue was on the table - whether the sides confirmed the agreements that were reached earlier in Prague and Brussels. Summing up the results, it is safe to state that the sides remain committed to those agreements," the head of Armenia’s cabinet said at a meeting with representatives of the Armenian diaspora in Germany. Nikol Pashinyan has said that following this meeting it was agreed that foreign ministers of the two countries would meet soon. "We reached an agreement with President Aliyev that foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan will meet shortly, after which another meeting of the commission on demarcation and delimitation of the boundary between the countries will also be held," Pashinyan added. If the agreements reached are observed, their implementation will facilitate easing of tensions on the border, he noted. "On our part we are determined to stick to those agreements. The meeting of foreign ministers is to be devoted to discussion and further approval of the text of the peace treaty. A number of points of the peace treaty have been agreed on, though there are such [points] that are of fundamental importance, which have not been approved yet, and the work in this direction should be in progress," the prime minister concluded. #business #finance #financialservices
