The Ontario government is investing up to $285 million to advance pre-development work on the Ontario Pumped Storage Project in the Municipality of Meaford. This project is a TC Energy (TCE) and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation partnership. The Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government of South Australia has opened consultation for the State Development Coordination and Facilitation Bill which aims to strengthen South Australia's competitive advantage in delivering a net-zero economy.    The draft bill aims to: - Facilitate economy-wide decarbonisation and support net-zero industry growth. - Speed up the delivery of large housing projects to address the housing crisis. - Streamline and consolidate regulatory processes for efficiency. - Introduce 'state development areas' for accelerated, environmentally suitable developments. The bill is considered important to support a surge in projects and developments that will need quick government approval on the path to net zero. Torrens Island Power Station Closure: An Opportunity for South Australian Businesses 📢 The upcoming closure of the Torrens Island Power Station in June 2026 presents both challenges and opportunities for businesses in South Australia. The Australian Government’s Energy Industry Jobs Plan aims to support workers affected by this transition. The Net Zero Economy Authority is currently undertaking a consultation process until 21 February 2025 to assess whether the Plan needs to be implemented for the Torrens Island closure. Infrastructure investment in Australia has seen significant growth in 2024, driven by both public and private sector commitments to support economic resilience and long-term development. The Australian government announced a record A$120 billion infrastructure pipeline over the next decade, focusing on transport, energy, and digital projects to stimulate economic growth and meet rising urban demands (Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, 2024). This investment includes major road and rail projects aimed at improving connectivity in both metropolitan and regional areas. Private sector involvement has also surged, with private infrastructure investment projected to reach A$40 billion in 2024, a 15% increase from the previous year (Australian Financial Review, 2024). Much of this growth is attributed to renewable energy and telecommunications infrastructure, as Australia transitions to a low-carbon economy and expands its digital capacity. The momentum around Indigenous equity ownership in Canada’s natural resource sector is gaining national attention. As highlighted in recent media, significant steps are being taken to enable Indigenous participation in major projects, with equity ownership as a key pillar of economic #reconciliation. From pipelines to renewable energy, Indigenous communities are becoming crucial stakeholders in shaping the future of Canada’s resource development. 135 energy and related infrastructure projects over the past 15 years that are partially or wholly owned by Indigenous people. Twenty-eight per cent of those Indigenous #equity investments occurred in the last two years alone. Sharleen Gale, chair of the First Nations Major Projects Coalition and former Chief of the Fort Nelson First Nation responds, “It certainly has been a good year, and it has also given us as Indigenous people a lot of hope about the future, especially going into 2025." At the heart of this shift, FNMPC continues to champion First Nations’ involvement by providing the tools, resources, and strategic support needed to secure equity positions in major projects. With government ambitions for clean energy generation at an all-time high, the future of the UK's ports is more crucial than ever. In this article published in The Herald Scotland, Partner and Head of Clean Energy Clare Foster outlines the challenges and opportunities associated with port infrastructure development in order to meet these ambitions.

A fruitful and very enjoyable afternoon talking through the first 100 days of the Humber Energy Board expertly led by Jonathan Oxley. A couple of personal take-aways: * The HEB needs to be action-oriented and not just events- or meetings-based. * Collaborative working, focusing on what everyone on the #Humber needs and delivering the same messages to #policymakers (government ministers, civil servants, MPs and local government) is vital to success. * There are some big divergences in the region, but those need to be dealt with after the Humber has got some wins under its belt (and they need to come soon). * As we know, the #Humber is the UK's most-heavily emitting cluster. That's a huge challenge but also a massive opportunity. The HEB needs to be the catalyst that gets decisions for the #Humber made more quickly. * What came out strongly from this meeting was the importance of #place. People - local residents, local councillors and MPs - need to feel part of the decision-making and be excited about local energy and net zero projects. They need to see the jobs and the economic potential for the region - and they will if we get this right. * The current companies and directors on the new Humber Energy Board have got the most amazing networks and an astonishing depth of experience. If anyone can do it, the HEB can! Thank you for inviting me along.
