Netherlands Innovation Network UK’s Post

Yesterday the Netherlands Innovation Network UK hosted a UK-NL event at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the United Kingdom on British-Dutch research collaboration on the topic of Critical Raw Materials. The afternoon kicked off with expert briefings from the Dutch (Elmer Rietveld) and the UK side (Gavin Mudd). They presented their ideas for research opportunities in the CRM field between both countries. Gavin additionally gave an insightful overview of the soon to be published new criticality methodology for the UK. A panel discussion with panelists Paul Ekins, Rossi Kevin, Luc Kikkert and Iain Gulland further explored research opportunities, focusing, among other things, on how circular economy concepts could and should be integrated better in CRM research calls. The final part of the afternoon was a workshop, where UK and Dutch researchers discussed potential consortia around CRM Horizon Europe calls. It’s clear that there is lots we can be doing together on this agenda! Many thanks to the presenters and panelists, and especially to David Peck for moderating the event and for all his support in the run up to the event. It was great to represent the Royal College of Art at this event. Disciplines like design futures, product design, and architecture are vital in tackling Critical Raw Materials challenges, driving innovation in systems and circularity. Great to see these connections highlighted!
