📣 Less than a week to go until the Netherlands Economic Mission to the UK on Life Sciences and Health! From 2-5 December, the Economic Mission on Life Sciences and Health will take place in London and the surrounding area. We have the pleasure of hosting a significant Dutch delegation, led by the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and VNO-NCW. 🏥 The MedTech & Digital Healthcare track comprises 14 organisations, the majority of which are companies with an innovative medical product. Examples include a VR application to improve accuracy in complex surgery, a belt that provides haptic feedback to help with balance disorders, and an AI-based tool used to predict the risk of infection after certain operations. In short, these are all companies that contributing to improving healthcare in the Netherlands and abroad. 🧪 As part of the Innovative Therapies track, we are thrilled to host a diverse group of 21 organisations at the forefront of healthcare innovation, including pioneers in cell and gene therapies, regenerative medicine, and organ-on-chip and organoid technologies. Representing academia, industry, and government, these organisations are driving advancements in personalised medicine, tissue engineering, and therapy development. Together, they are shaping the future of life sciences and accelerating the journey from research to impactful therapies. We look forward to welcoming the Dutch delegation to the UK for this mission, and to the opportunities for British and Dutch organisations to join forces in the pursuit to create a better, healthier future together. 🌊 Strengthening Dutch-British Collaboration in Water Technology! 🇳🇱🤝🇬🇧 This week a Dutch Water Technology Mission took place to Brighton, bringing together 10 leading Dutch companies to gain deeper insights into the UK water sector. 💧 The purpose of the mission was to exchange ideas and inspiration in the water technology industry, with participants having collaborative discussions on clean and efficient water use, innovative wastewater solutions, and driving environmental progress. Highlights included: ✅ A visit to Southern Water's wastewater treatment works, gaining insights into operational best practices ✅ Participation in British Water's annual conference, focused on advancing environmental improvements ✅ Valuable networking with UK water companies, contractors, and suppliers This visit served as an important step towards further strengthening Dutch-British partnerships and advancing innovation in water technology. 📚 Reflecting on History, Freedom, and Responsibility 🌍   Last night, the Dutch Ambassador Paul Huijts hosted the annual Cleveringa Lecture, co-organized by the Embassy of the Netherlands in the UK and the Cleveringa Committee London.   Professor Remco Breuker 🟥 delivered a thought-provoking lecture, "Where is Cleveringa? The Role of Universities in Times of Polarization and Geopolitical Turmoil". Drawing on the legacy of the 1940 Cleveringa protests, he challenged us to consider how universities can uphold academic freedom and integrity in today’s turbulent world.   Thank you to all who attended and contributed to the discussion. 🌊🌍 Last Friday, November 22nd, the Dutch Embassy, in partnership with the British Embassy The Hague and the British Council, hosted the Model North Sea Neighbour Conference simulation. This event brought together 23 talented students from the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, who stepped into the roles of delegates to simulate the upcoming North Sea Neighbour Conference, set to take place on December 3rd. The day was filled with energy, creativity, and collaboration. The students worked together to explore how the UK and the Netherlands can balance growth opportunities in emerging technologies with the need to protect against shared threats. In addition to the simulation, the students participated in a training session on intercultural dialogue, equipping them with valuable skills to navigate complex discussions in international contexts.  🇳🇱🤝🇬🇧 A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event such a success. 🌍🚢 Towards a Sustainable Future in Shipping! 🚢🌍 The Netherlands aims to achieve net-zero shipping by 2050. To reach this ambitious goal, we need to accelerate the shift to clean maritime fuels, zero-emission vessels, alternative propulsion systems, and the availability of landside infrastructure to support these innovations. Collaboration is key—across industries and borders. That’s why the Netherlands and the United Kingdom are teaming up to support the Green Shipping North Sea Corridor project, linking the Zeehaven IJmuiden NV / Port of IJmuiden and the Port of Tyne. 🌍 Strengthening Partnerships for a Sustainable Built Environment 🏗️ This week we hosted an incoming delegation active in built environment. Focus on strengthening partnerships while exploring shared ambitions for the built environment, advancing sustainability goals and leveraging digital solutions. 💡 Highlights of the first day We kicked off with insightful presentations of: Greater London Authority ReLondon London & Partners University of East London They highlighted key policies, circular economy advancements, and the latest industry developments shaping London's built environment. 🏴 At Scotland House, we heard from: The Scottish Government RIAS Scottish Futures Trust Built Environment - Smarter Transformation Discussions centered around architectural landscape, economic and social drivers, and industry innovations like modern methods of construction. 🏗️ Site Visit: Earl’s Court Development Company Participants toured this transformative 40-acre regeneration project. With plans for the first phase of development recently submitted, it was inspiring to learn about the vision for this landmark initiative. Afterwards, we ended the day with drinks at the Embassy.
