From the latest issue of Movement Disorders Clinical Practice: White matter (WM) & gray matter (GM) abnormalities have been linked to functional decline in MSA with widespread WM changes found in the cerebellum and brainstem. This study reports rates of these abnormalities advance similarly in clinical MSA subtypes. https://loom.ly/SGFdvPE

#breakingnews- new research from UT Health Houston has located that: after children experienced Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, the infusion of bone marrow mononuclear cells derived from the patient’s own bones led to less time spent in intensive care, less intense therapy, and, significantly, the structural preservation of white matter. Which constitutes about half the total volume of the brain. Traumatic Brain Injury is a leading cause of death and acquired disability around the world. This finding regarding clinical, neuroimaging, and functional outcomes give hope regarding the potential of cellular therapy to reduce chronic neurobehavioral problems and improve quality of life for children and adolescents after sustaining brain injury. New in the main journal, Rahimi et al explore neuroimaging changes in patients with mild Wilson disease. Imaging changes can be seen before neuropsychiatric symptoms; myelin or white matter in general seems vulnerable to low-level copper toxicity, with white matter volume loss showing promise as a marker for assessing brain involvement in early WD stages. Brain morphometry in hepatic Wilson disease patients Parya Rahimi, Stanislav Mareček, Radan Brůha, Dezortova Monika, Petr Sojka, Milan Hájek, Marta Skowrońska, Łukasz Smoliński, Petr Urbánek, Tomasz Litwin, Petr Dušek https://lnkd.in/g2NirhAv #wilsondisease #neuroimaging

Brain Tumour Awareness Month I wanted to share a bit about my journey with a brain tumour as it’s Brain Tumour Awareness Month. It’s been eight years since I found out that my tumour has remained stable. Although it’s benign, which might sound okay, it doesn’t mean the symptoms magically disappear. In fact, they can get worse. Tomorrow, I’m getting my latest MRI results. Any growth now would be detrimental to me. What’s really tough for me is seeing how it affects my soon-to-be miracle eight-year-old daughter, Ruby. She’s curious and worried about what could happen to me. I’ve always tried to stay positive, but it’s heartbreaking to see Ruby eagerly waiting for my results and asking questions. I tell her to focus on today, enjoy what we have, and stay positive. Life is unpredictable, and we should all cherish every moment brain tumour or not. If you can do one thing this month, reach out to brain tumour survivors. There are many others out there who need our support. Ruby and I are lighting a candle every night this month in memory of those we’ve lost to brain tumours. It might sound simple, but sitting in silence with a lit candle is therapeutic and helps us reflect on our own lives as well as others. Help spread the awareness and support each other during Brain Tumour Awareness Month. #TogetherWeCan #HelpLisa2HelpOthers #BrainTumourAwarenessMonth #BrainTumour #Symptoms #Disability https://lnkd.in/eJX_ngRY
