One of the first steps to creating a more Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) workplace is to understand the terminology. Diversity refers to the presence of differences in a group; Equity refers to the fair treatment of all people, regardless of their differences; Inclusion refers to the feeling of belonging and acceptance that all people feel in a group; Accessibility means that everyone can participate in all aspects of life, regardless of their abilities. The Employer Assistance & Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN) has great resources of what, why, and how of DEIA in your organization. #diversity #inclusion #equity #accessibility https://lnkd.in/ejuNnAdK

States are moving toward a more inclusive hiring model, improving employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities and bolstering the public sector workforce. Lindsay Lucas, project manager with CAPE Youth at the Council of State Governments, echoes this sentiment. "A growing number of states are trying to consider ways in which a workplace can be adapted so that individuals with disabilities can thrive." As this inclusive approach gains momentum, it not only enhances workforce diversity but also champions equality and accessibility. https://lnkd.in/gNyt9bmY

Our people make us great. BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina welcomes employees of all abilities to bring their talents to the company. We have more than 1,100 individuals who self-identify as working with a disability. This month we celebrate the value and talent these individuals bring to our workplace. We are proud to be recognized as a leading employer for people with disabilities by the Disability Equality Index, a benchmarking tool that measures disability inclusion policies and practices. It was created by Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) to promote transparency and accountability in the workplace. The index evaluates companies based on several criteria: culture and leadership, enterprise-wide access, employment practices, community engagement, and supplier diversity. #NDEAM #NationalDisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth

🌟 In our annual Global Workplace Report 2024, we have the pleasure of featuring Kamran Mallick, CEO of Disability Rights UK. Kamran shares great insights on the disparity in Flight Risk. Some of those insights include: 🟠 The fact that disabled employees are significantly more likely to consider leaving their jobs suggests that serious challenges remain in terms of accessibility, inclusion, and career progression. 🧭 The UK government's draft Equality (Race and Disability) Bill, with its introduction of mandatory disability pay gap reporting, is a step in the right direction. 🟣 Employers need to engage actively with their disabled employees, understand their pay expectations, and foster truly inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive. 🔗 Read the full story here: https://ow.ly/V9gt50UhvJq #Disability #DisabilityAwareness #WorkHappier #GlobalWorkplaceReport2024 #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #WorkL

Where Is Your 5%? The Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018 is more than a law—it’s a call to action. It mandates that at least 5% of employment opportunities in public organizations be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Yet, the reality is that many businesses, both public and private, are falling short of this requirement. PWDs represent an incredible pool of talent, innovation, and resilience, but their potential remains largely untapped. Lack of awareness, inaccessible workspaces, and deep-seated biases continue to create barriers to their inclusion. So we ask: Where is your 5%? Have you made room for PWDs in your workforce? Have you ensured your workplace is accessible and inclusive? It’s time to go beyond compliance. To help your organization embrace inclusion, we are offering tailored training on disability inclusion. Our program will equip you with the tools and strategies to: 🔵 Create accessible work environments. 🔵 Understand the needs of PWDs and break stereotypes. 🔵 Build an inclusive culture that benefits everyone. Let’s work together to bridge the gap and create opportunities for all. Join us today. Let your organization lead the way in inclusion and equity. Together, we can make the 5% a reality. #DisabilityInclusion #WhereIsYour5Percent #EmploymentForPWDs #InclusionMatters

EESC European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) calls for better inclusion of persons with disabilities in the labour market [20 September 2024] https://lnkd.in/gxTDwmz2 The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), has adopted an opinion supporting the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the open labour market, calling for the promotion of measures and policies (including the setup of a joint fund between Member States) that would buttress these efforts. See [Opinion] Promoting the social integration of persons with disabilities and persons with changed working capacity [21 September 2024, Decision 19 September 2024] https://lnkd.in/gqfzkZ7a or https://lnkd.in/gzWCgwcE This opinion presents recommendations on ways to help persons with disabilities enter the open labour market and better implement the aims highlighted in the Disability Employment Package. It focuses on two topics: the social integration, complex rehabilitation and occupational rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and changed working capacity; and a EU-level reflection around the need for reasonable accommodation.

💜🌎 Celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! At Women Enabled International, we envision a world where women and gender-diverse people with disabilities lead in every professional field, without barriers or bias. 💪 NDEAM exists to highlight the importance of disability inclusion in the workforce and to raise awareness about the contributions and challenges faced by people with disabilities in employment. This annual observance, led by the U.S. Department of Labor, reminds us of the critical work needed to achieve equity in the workplace. ✊ This NDEAM, we honor the resilience and achievements of disabled individuals in the workforce and continue to advocate for inclusive policies, accessible workplaces, and equal opportunities for all. When we create work environments where accessibility and equity are prioritized, we build pathways for true inclusion. #NDEAM #DisabilityEmployment #InclusionMatters #EmploymentForAll #WomenEnabled #DisabilityRights #EqualOpportunities #WorkplaceInclusion

⭐️ Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week ⭐️ 💜 Supporting Staff with Hidden Disabilities This week is Equality, Diversity and Human Rights week, organised by NHS Employers to help promote and share best practice and advice on how we can make our organisations a great and inclusive place to work ✨ Today's theme is focused on Hidden Disabilities- There are over 10 million people of working age in the UK that live with a disability. A hidden or non-visible disability is one that might not be immediately obvious to others, though can similarly affect a person's life just as much as a visible one. NTW Solutions has been a Disability Confident Employer for three years running, and we are proud to be part of a wider network striving to support those living with a disability in the workplace. We also offer a Reasonable Adjustments Passport to support staff living with a disability, as well as those staff members who do not have a disability but might require some adjustments at work. We understand this can be a sensitive and personal subject, but we're proud to offer this option for staff to come forward and collaborate with their managers to support them in their role! 💜 #EQW2024

As our young advocates enter the workforce, we're addressing the need for more inclusive workplaces. Our research shows a significant underrepresentation of individuals with disabilities in the workforce. This year, we launched a steering committee to tackle these challenges and bridge the gap between employees and employers.
