Check out the cool feature "Ready for the runway: Dream Chaser spaceplane prepares for first trip to ISS". We excitedly look forward to your continued progress and trip to Florida for the next steps before launch. Tenacity, along with an attached 16-foot cargo module, Shooting Star, is capable of delivering up to 12,000 pounds to the International Space Station (ISS). Upon Tenacity's departure from ISS and deorbit burn, Shooting Star will detach from Tenacity and burn up on reentry, along with its contents, hence its given name. While Tenacity can reach up to 3,000 degrees on reentry within 30 minutes, the spaceplane will cool enough for retrieval of all cargo and hardware. With no need to accommodate a crew, most of the available space in Tenacity is freed up for the "professional tetris" stacked cargo. Very cool! #SpaceNews #AerospaceEngineering #InternationalSpaceStation #ISS #Cargo #Spacecraft
After Tenacity and Shooting Star complete their final environmental testing at NASA Armstrong Test Facility in Ohio, Sierra Space will ship the spacecraft to Kennedy Space Center to begin loading and prepping them for launch, where Tenacity will hitch a ride to low-earth orbit on United Launch Alliance (ULA)'s Vulcan rocket. Axiom and other companies are gearing up for the not too distant future when humans travel between orbiting stations and celestial objects - Moon, Mars... But we have not ramped up the off world workforce system which will require thousands of 'space ready' people in all careers, from Med Techs, RNs, and Drs to Construction and Manufacturing Trades, QC and Auditing, Emergency Response Techs, Communications and Installation Techs, Physical and Mental Gealth Therapists and so much more. We need to begin training these folks now in Analog settings so we are ready for Go when the hardware and infrastructure are done. Axiom Space let's get ahead of the curve!
The first Artemis III Integrated Test is now complete. Axiom Space, along with NASA and Space X, tested how the #AxEMU and elements such as Starship will work together during the Artemis III mission. Axiom Space's Director of Human Spaceflight, Peggy Whitson, and NASA astronaut Douglas Wheelock donned the AxEMU, providing crucial data and expertise. Learn more about how we're suiting humanity's return to the moon with #AxEMU: https://bit.ly/3VsF0F1.

Understanding how something fails is so important to the design process. Many structures fail at critical stress points. Its not as simple as beefing up that portion of the structure where it failed as the critical stress point can simply move to a different location and fail there. Rather, the ideal is to eliminate the critical stress entirely. Not all projects have the resources to test to failure, but so much can be learned by doing so. Physics is the foundation and designers can rely on the physics being present. Beyond that, systems can fail in lots of ways; sometimes predictable but other times in completely surprising ways. We learn by doing. Testing to failure can also verify margins to the design, particularly above things like maximum operating pressure or structural fatigue. Factors of safety are routinely applied over levels that a system is expected to see in flight or during the mission, and testing to failure can show if designers got that resilience right.
Sierra Space has achieved another major milestone in the development of the first commercial space station. The second Ultimate Burst Pressure test of our full-scale LIFE 285 structure at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center exceeded #NASA's recommended 4x safety levels by 22%. The full-scale article is one third the volume of the International Space Station and will be integral part of future commercial space destinations. Press Release: https://bit.ly/3yfzr43
