In my early days as an ELA instructor, I felt unsure about my instructional choices so I tried to emulate other veteran teachers, hoping their methods would guide my own. However, this approach left me feeling disconnected and disengaged from my students. It took time and introspection to recognize that the key to genuine student engagement was authenticity in my teaching style—a realization that came from understanding my unique strengths and areas for growth. Many educators face this silent struggle, unsure how to identify and harness their own potential due to a lack of awareness and guidance. This gap affects not only their confidence but also their effectiveness in the classroom. Authentic teaching thrives under authentic leadership—leaders who encourage self-discovery and foster an environment where teachers feel safe to explore and embrace both their strengths and weaknesses. School leaders, what is one way you empower your teachers to delve into their personal teaching identities and become authentic educators in their classrooms? 🎯Get more insights in our complimentary 'Inclusivity' Checklist. 🔗https://bit.ly/42q2UD8

"In thinking about a leader’s role in workload management and reduction, we need to consider how the leadership team’s perception of workload is different from, and at times even at odds with, teaching staff views…. Leaders: ask ‘Can we explain why we want this?’ If the answer offers purely monitoring, quality assurance or administrative reasons, it isn’t a good enough answer.” Peter Foster in 'The Long Game: Sustaining a Successful Career in Teaching', out now from Routledge: https://lnkd.in/e9jhEPvz

Educational Leaders are the curriculum and practice leaders in early learning services. This is a critically important position and is directly related to quality early learning for our children. Why then do so many Educational Leaders report that their time is often lost as they are required to act as room relief staff? Why do so many observe that their role and its potential impact is often poorly understood and is certainly underrated? If we are truly serious about our declarations on how important early learning is, surely we have to get serious about supporting and resourcing the Educational Leader role? Teacher supervision is a mandated process. However, both the teacher and administrator often feel that it falls short of the intended outcomes: to support teachers’ continuous professional growth, and to provide data and feedback that enables the teacher to self-monitor, self-manage, and self-modify. In this short session, learn what makes supervision a truly collaborative partnership between the supervisor and the teacher.
