There are hidden dangers in taking your dog on the beach this summer – however much your dog likes to feel the sand between its toes…… Vet Dr Rebecca MacMillan, and TrustedHousesitters, are warning owners about the hidden hazards your beloved hound could face on the beach. While your dog might find discarded barbecue embers irresistible (no accounting for taste) and all part of a fun day, these perils could prove fatal for your furry friend. And other hazards? Dr MacMillan advises owners to be aware of large holes in the sand which could be a trip hazard for dogs chasing toys; saltwater (it can dehydrate them); jellyfish (in case they’re stung) and strong currents and waves. Also, be aware of potential heatstroke – certain breeds are more susceptible. And consider choosing a dog-friendly beach, advises TrustedHousesitters.

Lucky for some, certain dog breeds have naturally long and well insulated coats that help keep them warm when the weather gets tough. Unfortunately, lots of other types of dog are more vulnerable. During winter, small breeds with short coats and toy breeds will struggle to keep warm. However, larger breeds can also get chilly despite their size if they have a thin coat. 🐾 Small and short coated dog breeds: Jack Russells Poodles Whippets Dachshunds Chihuahuas Basset Hounds Yorkshire Terriers 🐾 Large and short coated dog breeds: Dalmations Staffies Greyhounds Doberman Pinschers All these breeds are more susceptible to the cold, however, any dog will get cold if left in the cold or wet for too long. #winterdog #dogadvice #DogCoats #winterwalks #dogwalking #DogInformation #dogownerlife
