We are absolutely delighted to announce our latest partnership with IFS Foundation to promote STEM skills in remote and rural communities in Sri Lanka.   In alignment with our mission to improve tech education and skills, our £64,000 grant will support the creation of a computer lab and staff training to deliver IT and STEM classes in the village of Weralugahamula, where the IFS Foundation is currently active. I am thrilled to announce that The Hg Foundation, a grant-giving charity focused on improving tech education and skills, is partnering with IFS and the IFS Foundation to promote #STEM skills in remote and rural communities in Sri Lanka. The Hg Foundation has approved a grant to enable the construction of a computer lab, and staff training, to deliver IT and STEM classes in the village of Weralugahamula. Some terrific work in helping innovative non-profits with grants plus training and mentoring, to scale up their projects that assist marginalised young learners to learn and develop skills in a nurturing environment. These are organisations addressing problems like young people not in school, or not staying in school, or not completing school and graduating, or not being able to continue in post school pathways whether it be further training, education or employment. With a focus on student engagement, motivation, empowerment and resilience through use of education technology, virtual learning, localised curriculum, needed skill development, and local community problem solving. At the same time the projects are also helping and empowering teachers in the classroom and parents at home. These and other groups at a local, regional or global level we can all support in our own ways. #educationinnovation

A staggering 15% of the global population remains illiterate, and only two-thirds have completed secondary education. This stark reality underscores the urgent need for quality education, particularly in underprivileged communities. Millions of children worldwide lack access to basic education. Through our education campaign, we are working to change this by building libraries, improving school infrastructure, and providing technology resources. By partnering with leading technology companies, we equip children with smart devices loaded with educational software, enabling them to learn from anywhere. “After being directly admitted in grade 5 (despite not studying in grade 4), I started going to school regularly. In grade 6, I was introduced to a laptop where I learned how to operate a laptop. As I went in higher grades, I learned how the work is done in E mitra. This early exposure led me to believe that I too can apply & open a E mitra of my own so that I can help my community members in availing various government schemes benefits. This belief has helped me in starting my own E mitra shop after completing my studies.” This is how we want the story of Khushba to be. Khushba has been part of our Digital Education and Empowerment Program (DEEP) for the past 6 months. In the 2nd part of the pic, you can see her learning laptop in a government school. In the 1st part of the pic (which is 3 years old), she was identified as an out of school child (i.e. never enrolled in a school) during the community survey. Like her, more than 500+ children have been part of DEEP. Out of these, 98% are first generation digital literacy skills learners. In the upcoming academic year, we dream of 1000+ children to be part of DEEP. 📣 Countdown to Change: Join Us in Empowering Rural Children through Literacy and Technology! At WeCare Africa, we are thrilled to launch our official fundraising countdown for The Literacy Competitions! 🎉 What is the Literacy Competitions about? The Literacy Competitions is more than just an educational program; it’s a transformative initiative aimed at empowering a love for reading and learning among children in rural public schools across South East while equipping these children with targeted digital literacy and SDGs interventions through our 5day workshop. PHASE 1 -Month 1: Regional Competitions Volunteer engagement, training, and deployment for Community Awareness Organize literacy competitions in various public schools across the South Eastern region. Conduct preliminary rounds to select the top 10 students from each school. Month 2: Semi-Final Competitions Host regional semi-finals with selected students competing to represent their regions in the final event. In a region where educational resources and motivation are scarce, the impact of such a competition is profound. Research has shown that literacy competitions significantly improve academic performance and instill a lifelong love for learning. Phase 2 Month 3: Final Competition and the 5 day Hands-On Bootcamp Our initiative doesn’t stop at literacy. We’re excited to introduce a 5-day hands-on boot camp designed to expose children to technological advancements and career opportunities in tech. This boot camp will: -Enhance Digital Literacy: Equip students with essential tech skills. -Promote Thought Leadership: Foster critical thinking and innovation. -Advance SDG Awareness: Educate students on the Sustainable Development Goals and their role in achieving them. This intervention is a crucial step towards bridging the gap between rural communities and the digital age, preparing our youth for a future brimming with opportunities.
