Almost a quarter (23%) of working women have considered quitting due to the impact of menopause or menstrual symptoms at work according to new research from healthcare provider Simplyhealth. Almost nine in 10 (87%) working women want their employer to be more supportive when it comes to women’s health. Simplyhealth, alongside the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD), urges employers to create a culture where employees can discuss women’s health issues and access support. One of the ways to create a more inclusive workplace is by providing awareness training around the perimenopause and menopause, it's not just for 'women of a certain age' all employees need to be aware to ensure understanding and empathy for your colleagues, peers, and people you manage or who manage you. #menopause #WMD #perimenopause #mentalhealthmatters #supportduringmenopause #reasonableadjustment #training #mentalhealthtraining

Today is #WorldMenopauseDay, and it’s a perfect chance to acknowledge how menopause impacts physical and mental well-being too. Menopause can bring unexpected challenges such as anxiety, depression, “brain fog,” and emotional ups and downs. While every person’s journey is different, the mental health effects can be just as challenging as the physical ones. Here’s what I’ve learned about supporting those going through menopause: - Education is power – Organisations like Mind and Henpicked are fantastic for educating us all on what menopause really means and how to support others. - Awareness changes everything – In my previous company, menopause awareness sessions were a game-changer specifically how women felt seen and heard. - Support makes a difference – The Balance app by Newson Health or Clue for tracking symptoms and offering practical advice Menopause is part of life and always has been, and the more we talk about it openly, the better we can support those going through it 💜 #MenopauseAwareness #SupportAndEmpathy #MentalHealthMatters #WorkplaceSupport

Today is #WorldMenopauseDay, the third theme of the week that I can offer no genuine (first hand, at least) empathy for! I have seen people I care about experience the challenges of menopause and perimenopause - the physical changes, which can include issues with sleep, 'brain fog' and low mood can - understandably - mean the individual feels like their world has tilted 90 degrees or more Of course there are often profound impacts on mental health and wellbeing, as changes in reproductive potential, body shape and function and other factors weigh on the mind. A study by Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd concluded: "...over 50% of people going through the menopause experience neuropsychiatric conditions, such as depression and insomnia." This is compounded by poor education - even among the health professions, science based on male biology, and cultural taboos, stigma and myth. Perimenopause, menopause and hormonal impacts on women's mental health. Raising the awareness!!! Progressing the discussion! Improving clinical care! Mood and cognitive symptoms tend to be one of the first reported changes in perimenopause. How can psychologists help? Thorough assessments, trained in being menopause and hormone aware, working with identity, assisting with symptom relief to improve wellbeing. Collaborating with medical teams. I am excited to have been invited to present this poster on the role of psychologists in menopause work at the IMS World Menopause Congress.
