It was wonderful to see lots of exciting announcements to come out of the recent Meta Connect conference. One of the most significant announcements is the Meta Quest 3S headset, which incorporates most of the great things about Meta Quest 3. The Meta Quest 3S offers a similar experience, with the same powerful Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, 8GB of RAM, and full colour passthrough, while opting for slightly less advanced displays and fresnel lenses to achieve a lower price point. This is fantastic news for enterprises as it lowers the barrier to entry for integrating VR into their operations. I'm thrilled because this will drive both consumer and enterprise adoption over the coming 12 months. In the short term, we are looking forward to seeing this translate to more uptake of Liminal VR as a tool for mental health and wellbeing in schools, workplaces, and healthcare settings. We've seen great adoption in the last six months and I anticipate that the affordability of the Meta Quest 3S will accelerate our growth and see further adoption of the mental health and wellbeing use case for VR. Jack Soslow from a16z believes the moment is ripe for ARVR apps. I wholeheartedly agree. In his well-thought-out thread on X, he presented strong arguments about the market potential of AR/VR and the advantages of investing now. Here's a quick summary of what he highlighted, but I highly recommend reading the entire thread on X: https://lnkd.in/gz_y3uDy 🧐 Underestimated Market: Past setbacks have led many to overlook ARVR, yet Meta's ~30m Quest headset sales showcase strong market potential. 📈 Sales Growth: Meta's sales soared from 2M units in 2019 to 13M units in 2022, with a strong rebound in early 2024, driven by the Quest 2, an older yet popular device. 🎮 Youth Engagement: VR retains adolescent users as well as consoles do, suggesting a solid foothold in younger markets. 🚪 Entry Barrier: Success stories like Gorilla Tag show top VR games can be made with little to no funding, demonstrating a low barrier to market entry. 💰 Developer Returns: VR has enabled over 40 developers to earn >$10m; the platform offers lucrative payouts per developer. 🧠 Natural Fit: Humans have evolved with 3D spatial reasoning, making VR a natural extension of our innate capabilities, enhancing learning, and design experiences. 🤖 Tech Integration: VR blends digital and physical realities, ideal for applications in robotics and immersive tech. 📊 Market Potential: As VR tech matures and becomes more accessible, there's potential for new platforms to emerge, similar to early iPhone apps that defined their sectors. ⏱️ Strategic Timing: With low competition and high potential for returns, now is a strategic time to launch ARVR initiatives. 🥽 Are you buying one? Images of the new Meta Quest 3S start to surface online. Expected to be launched next week: This might end up becoming one of the biggest entrance doors to VR/XR ever. I've talked about the new Quest 3S in a few previous posts already. It's supposed to be a lighter version of the Quest 3, with XR enabled, for people who can't afford the Q3. We don't have full specs, but it'll definitely have lower processing power, with the same battery! At the end of the day, we're talking about: - A light device (potentially the lightest out there, might be lighter than the Q3) - Enough processing power to run most modern stuff (similar to a Quest 2 power) - Same battery of the Q3, which means more hours of usage - Lower price! If you thought $500 was affordable, this should come for less It's supposed to be released next week, during Meta's Connect 2024. So if you still have a Quest 2, the time to sell it is NOW! I've been using the Meta Quest 2 for the last 8 months, experiencing everything the Vision Pro promises. While Apple's advertising may look fancy, truthfully, it's not offering anything new. I've noticed that when the Meta Quest 3 launches, it won't get as much attention as Apple's launch. Many people will post about Apple, appreciating its marketing and hype, but let's not overhype it. In a world where tech headlines are dominated by the latest releases, it's easy to overlook the game-changing advancements in virtual reality offered by other VR headset company Apple Vision Pro: $3500 Mera quest 2: $249 Mera quest 3: $499 #VR #MetaQuest #Quest3 #VirtualReality

Meta has announced that it will launch a new education hub for Quest VR headsets later this year that will make it easier to use them in schools. The hub will let teachers access “education-specific apps and features.” The hub will also feature tools to manage all Quest headsets in the classroom. Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs, notes that Meta wants the hub to make it “easier for students to learn, apply and practice new skills.” The company has said that hub will only become available to schools serving students 13 years and older and only in markets where Meta’s workplace-focused Quest for Business subscription is supported. #Meta #Quest #VR #Education #USA #Canada #News #TechNews #Tech #ITW Image: Meta

The future is mixed, not virtual. Meta's Quest 3S announcement signals a pivotal shift in the XR landscape. This move isn't just about new hardware; it's a glimpse into how we'll interact with digital and physical worlds simultaneously. As VR headset sales decline, mixed reality emerges as the bridge between our current reality and the augmented future. The Quest 3S, with its affordable price point and workplace applications, isn't just a gadget—it's a gateway to a new era of productivity and immersion. But what does this mean for us? → It suggests that the line between digital and physical will continue to blur. → It hints at a future where our workspaces are no longer confined to physical locations. → It challenges us to rethink how we engage with technology in our daily lives. As Meta bolsters its developer support, we're witnessing the birth of an ecosystem that could redefine how we work, play, and connect. The question is: Are we ready to embrace this mixed reality, or will we cling to the familiar confines of our current world? The future isn't just coming—it's already here, blending seamlessly into our present. #MixedRealityFuture #TechEvolution #DigitalWorkforce #MetaHub https://buff.ly/47GNJYF
