There’s a reason why we celebrate the light at this time of year… It's the time when the light seems most diminished (at least in the Northern Hemisphere). Across many faiths and many cultures, celebrations of light occur in the dark of winter. Traditions of lighting candles and decorating with lights to honor, remember, and celebrate spread out throughout the world. The bringing of the light in the darkness has many stories attached to it, depending on your belief system, but it is also a celebration of the metaphor of the light of awareness, of feeling safe and seen, loved, guided, and protected. It offers us an opportunity to be our own light for ourselves, and in the world, as well.
