Silent Tragedies: The Urgency of Early Intervention for Mitral Stenosis Imagine sifting through 150 patient electronic records, each representing a life. My task is to identify those with severe mitral stenosis who would benefit from valvotomy. What I found was heartbreaking. Eight young patients lost their lives waiting for a potentially life-saving procedure. These weren't complex cases; with timely intervention, they could have lived relatively normal lives. Untreated stenosis leads to a devastating cascade: heart failure, stroke, and shattered dreams. These eight individuals represent countless others facing a similar struggle. Can we please advocate for increased access to screenings and valvotomy procedures and fight for earlier intervention?
