Silent Tragedies: The Urgency of Early Intervention for Mitral Stenosis Imagine sifting through 150 patient electronic records, each representing a life. My task is to identify those with severe mitral stenosis who would benefit from valvotomy. What I found was heartbreaking. Eight young patients lost their lives waiting for a potentially life-saving procedure. These weren't complex cases; with timely intervention, they could have lived relatively normal lives. Untreated stenosis leads to a devastating cascade: heart failure, stroke, and shattered dreams. These eight individuals represent countless others facing a similar struggle. Can we please advocate for increased access to screenings and valvotomy procedures and fight for earlier intervention? Together, we can prevent these tragedies and ensure everyone has a chance at a healthy life. #MitralStenosis #HeartHealth #SaveLives

Dear Eshe, thank you for the initiative to advocate valvotomy for MS. Given that the burden of RHD/CRVHD is a high priority issue for intervention (from primordial to tertiary prevention), it is essential to generate evidence on the proportion (numbers are impactful in advocacy) of patients who could benefit from valvotomy. This information will allow us to accurately assess the cost effectiveness of such interventions and advocate more effectively for their implementation. Lets advocate lifesaving valvotomy for MS.

Thank you Dr. Eshetu!!
