This conference provided a forum for designers, contractors and sustainability professionals alike to collaborate and discuss how the construction industry can achieve Net Zero. The conference was of great value for Duratec, allowing our team to gain insight into strategies, technologies and materials that reduce the impact on the environment, whilst also understanding how this differs from our biodiversity footprint. During #NetZeroWeek, it’s fitting that our chief sustainability officer Julia Barrett was declared Construction Leader of the Year at last night’s Construction News awards. This is recognition for how Julia has driven our aim is to be zero-carbon in our own operations without offsetting by 2030. The built environment is responsible for about 42% of annual global CO2 emissions, so finding a solution is non-negotiable. That's why yesterday’s award matters. It’s a reflection on the progress construction is making to become a greener industry that offers tangible solutions for the net zero ambitions of customers and supply chain partners alike. In awarding the title, judges said Julia’s ‘commitment to driving change through collaboration, strategy and leadership really shines through’. Collaboration is the only way we’ll deliver a step-change in reducing construction’s annual global CO2 emissions.
