The US has made it clear it no longer trusts Israel’s actions in Gaza. The only way to get humanitarian aid in is with an immediate ceasefire, writes Associate Fellow Nomi Bar-Yaacov for The Independent.

Thank you Nomi Bar-Yaacov for this important piece! Your ability to provide clear analysis of often intricate issues, such as the US-Israel relationship in this current war, never fails to impress. And your emphasis on the urgency of imposing a much needed ceasefire is crucial. Thank you for your hard work!
There is no future for Israel (and similarly for Palestine) based on the narrative of its radicals..... anyone who wants to claim territory exclusively for themselves will only find eternal war, violence and destruction, whereas the moderates at both sides hold the key to peace by non-violent interaction and dialog as equals. Since Gaza has been carpet bombed, chances on a two-state solutionhave become minimal. The only way out of the conflict is thus to learn to coexist as equals and to share the country as one-state. There is in principle space for all (https://lnkd.in/dGTAtn6V
, interesting data and interesting plan for the return of all displaced Palestinians). Practically, it means in my opinion to go back to the times of Canaan and establish (democratic) autonomous communities and spread them over the entire territory of Canaan. These autonomous communities can coexist and come together in a confederation of communities, sharing the country. There is space for all cultural identities this way. Currently, such scenario seems very far fetched, but, the Palestinians belong to Canaan and nobody outside is waiting for another exodus. www.canaan.community & www.pax.ngo & www.convergence.ngo
An Israeli settler attacked humanitarian aid convoys heading to Gaza. It looted the desperately needed food intended for starving Palestinians in the Strip while mockingly laughing and saying, "I am taking this home." This behaviour is unacceptable and goes against any sense of humanity and fairness. Those who engage in such actions must be held accountable for their actions.
As Ramadan begins, global leaders unite in recognizing its significance and call for a ceasefire in Gaza. US President Joe Biden promises international efforts for humanitarian aid, committing to a six-week ceasefire. UN Secretary-General António Guterres passionately appeals for peace in Gaza, urging a cessation of violence and swift humanitarian aid delivery.
He highlights the severe crisis, deploring insufficient relief and the threat of further escalation. Guterres extends the call for a Ramadan ceasefire in Sudan, emphasizing the need for global unity in promoting peace. Biden pledges continuous efforts for a sustained ceasefire and a two-state solution, acknowledging the suffering of Palestinians during Ramadan.

I spoke with CNN on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza earlier today. Words cannot capture what people are enduring--particularly in the north.
Mercy Corps provided our assessment--along with seven other NGOs that have been working to either provide aid or monitor the humanitarian situation--on the conditions for Israel to improve the provision of humanitarian assistance laid out in an October 13 letter from Secretaries Blinken and Austin. These conditions have not only largely not been met, but have actually deteriorated since the letter was sent.
The result--if dramatic changes are not made--will be loss of life due to famine conditions that are now present across Gaza and pervasive in particularly in the north. These deaths--affecting children in the greatest numbers-- will occur despite clear warnings and evidence provided by humanitarian actors desperate to assist civilians.
Russia's veto today against UK and Sierra leone ceasefire resolution represents a clear stance of the "international community" disregarding the suffering of the Sudanese people. This decision means:
1. The continuation of the cycle of violence (war)
2. More death due to the ongoing conflict
3. More hunger due to the blockade of humanitarian aid
4. More suffering endured by civilians without any effective international support to save them.
With:
25 million Sudanese need aid.
11 million displaced, 3 million seeking refuge abroad.
Over 3,000 civilians dead.
Famine worsens, with rising hunger and suffering.
31 May 21:50: BBC News: Biden 🇺🇸 unveils Israeli 🇮🇱 proposal to end Gaza 🇵🇸👺🥷🏻 war:
World: 1 hour ago: Updated 37 mins ago: Bernd Debusmann Jr & Tom Bateman: BBC News, Washington:
US President Joe Biden has urged Hamas to accept a new Israeli proposal to end the conflict in Gaza, saying that "it's time for this war to end".
The three-part proposal would begin with a six-week ceasefire in which the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) would withdraw from populated areas of Gaza.
There would also be a "surge" of humanitarian aid, as well as an exchange of some hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
The deal would eventually lead to a permanent "cessation of hostilities" and a major reconstruction plan for Gaza:
Humanitarian aid and other goods necessary for the survival of the civilians must be allowed into #Gaza & be safely distributed.
So far, nearly 200 humanitarian workers have been killed.
Attacking people or objects involved in humanitarian aid may amount to a war crime.

The OIC Media Observatory for Israeli Crimes against Palestinians :
1.Gaza requires $280 million annually in humanitarian aid.
2.An additional $290 million is needed annually for recovery efforts.
3.Israel has reportedly destroyed 80,000 homes in Gaza.
4.Rebuilding the Gaza Strip is estimated to take 80 years.
5.The occupation forces have significantly regressed Gaza’s economy, setting it back by 350 years.
