The canal and river trust employ around 1800 people in such a variety of roles that we have a few hundred job titles. The number of paid employees has stayed fairly constant over many years, though the roles have evolved and job titles have changed. This is particularly true in the growth in the number of volunteering leaders we have, to help manage the 4,600 volunteers who now help us; for many, the role of volunteering leader is the first step on the ladder towards a line management position. We formally started working with volunteers in 2007, when we were still British Waterways and these days roughly 1 in 5 hours of work at the Canal & River Trust is delivered by a volunteer and we would be completely lost without them. We have a plethora of volunteer roles from volunteer lock keepers to volunteer rangers and volunteer reservoir inspectors to volunteer archivists. We work as one team so much so that sometimes we struggle to recognise who is paid and who is not. In this picture, there are 12 people who carry out work for the Trust – 4 are paid and 8 are volunteers. Unless you know them already, I think you would be hard pressed to identify which is which. You can check out our vacancies for paid roles here Canal & River Trust | Careers Center | Welcome (icims.com) You can check out our volunteer opportunities here Opportunities | Canal & River Trust (canalrivertrust.org.uk) The Canal & River Trust does what it can to ensure our historic navigations can be used in the pursuit of happiness by those, both on the towpath and on the water. The Canal & River Trust has a steadily reducing financial support from the UK Government and so we therefore need your support, both from individuals and corporate partners, to keep canals open and alive. Check out our website www.canalrivertrust.org.uk for more details of how you can get involved and help. #keepcanalsalive

"When you apply, we kindly ask you to remove your schools from your resume." 🙌 Can we all take a moment to appreciate how Groundswell Fund is practicing true inclusivity by adopting equitable and fair #hiring practices? Their hiring process requires applicants to REMOVE any references to undergraduate and graduate school names to reduce #bias while recruiting candidates. This helps create a level playing field for all applicants and helps assess them based on what they actually bring to the table, instead of just #tags. #shoutout #equitablehiring #inclusivity #hiring

I once had this supervisor who told me that every time the phone rang at work, it wasn’t a problem but an opportunity to be helpful. That really resonated with me and re-instilled the fact that property management is a care industry. Anyone can move snow and cut grass. It’s not rocket science. But choosing a path of providing service and care for others, is a conscious choice, to bring Community together. It’s not about us, you, or me. It’s about them. Once we check our own egos, everything else falls into place. #penco #pencomanagement #CommunityAssociationManagement. #community
