Pivotal, the market leader in light electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has announced a significant milestone: the signing of an Other Transaction Authority (OTA) contract with the United States Air Force and AFWERX Agility Prime. This two-year contract grants Pivotal access to top-tier test facilities, expert resources, and multiple sites under restricted airspace, all aimed at accelerating the development and operational deployment of Pivotal’s light eVTOL aircraft, particularly the Helix platform. “This OTA Contract with the USAF is our first direct-to-government contract and only our second DoD related transaction. We see this as a strong vote of support for the mission potential of Pivotal’s technology,” said Ken Karklin, CEO of Pivotal. “Not only are we going to advance the capabilities of our patented tilt-aircraft architecture through this relationship, we are going to accelerate the establishment of the Helix’s airworthiness and see its utility demonstrated in a range defense of missions.” Karklin emphasized the unmatched testing capabilities provided by Agility Prime, which will significantly advance the development of light eVTOL technology and its mission capabilities for defense purposes. This collaboration not only benefits Pivotal and the United States Department of Defense but also ensures better commercial outcomes, value for taxpayers, and expedited progress for all stakeholders involved. "The Roc is expected to be recycled for another launch attempt with TA-1 in March and is also likely to be used for additional flight envelope expansion work as the company prepares the follow-on vehicles TA-2 and TA-3 for flight. Both are reusable and designed to recover for landing at Vandenberg SFB after Mach 5-plus flights. Stratolaunch is also developing two sets of modifications for the company's recently acquired  Boeing 747-400, which was formerly used as a launch platform by Virgin Orbit. 'We're getting it ready for Talon-A, which is our custom release system which is just a match for the Roe release system,' CEO and President Zachary Krevor says. 'We're also doing some work for our customer to modify it so it can carry a release system that's compatible with the U.S. Air Force B-52. We will never replace the B-52. Other observers tell a similar story. https://lnkd.in/gveUPBjD Militaries still drive the bulk of market growth in the region, as they modernise and replace legacy platforms, expand existing fleets, and move into new niche areas (e.g. ASW, attack, CSAR). New acquisitions demand more Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) support. A particular trend is the militarisation of commercial platforms - adding weapons and specialist sensors - leveraging the reliability, ease of supportability, low operating costs and near performance of proven platforms. Demand has also increased in the para-public sector (police, firefighting, air ambulance, border patrol, SAR) where the performance of modern helicopters and the enhancement in organisational capacity is proving ROI. Technologies such as tiltrotor and Bell's Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) offer a revolution in capability, as we stand on the verge of unprecedented change in how armies think and manoeuvre in the maritime IndoPacific. Electric VTOL, such as Bell's Nexus and the hybrid-electric Nuuva look to disrupt last-mile logistics and courier passenger services. Future innovations such as HSVTOL are already in development to push the boundaries of traditional rotorcraft beyond anything yet imagined. Held at GMV facilities, this review brought together esteemed partners and stakeholders, including the customer, CPT, and National Programme Offices representing France, Germany, and Spain. Pillar 3 stands as a pivotal component of the program, uniting the three nations in the pursuit of disruptive technologies associated with Remote Carriers and Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUT). Remote Carriers, unmanned aerial platforms poised to support fighter aircraft in the future combat air system, represent just one facet of Pillar 3's multifaceted approach. Meanwhile, MUT technology encompasses a spectrum of functionalities crucial for developing collaborative missions between manned and unmanned platforms, revolutionizing the landscape of modern warfare. GMV assumes an active role in this transformative initiative, working alongside Sener and Tecnobit-Grupo Oesía through SATNUS.
