Catch me if you can! 🙈 Can your WMS do this?? Imagine pieces of Gouda cheese 🧀 not always being exactly the same weight for each package or rolls of curtain fabrics have slightly different lengths. Some of our customers are in a situation where the exact quantities of their goods vary a bit because of constraints and limitation in their production process. They still need to report the exact “catch” amounts of picked and shipped to their end-customers of course - in such a scenario you need a catch quantity functionality in your WMS. It works as follows: first you identify a part in your WMS as being a “catch quantity” part. During the receiving of the goods you make sure the goods are identified properly. The right “catch quantity” in combination for a unique identifier for each individual part and footprint is either scanned or received via an interface. If you are dealing with high value goods or need strict quality control, the WMS is able to alert you if the quantities fall out of the predetermined tolerance ranges. Next step is that the parts will be sent to an available location for these goods that all fall in the same tolerance ranges. Then during picking, the WMS makes sure the system allocates goods for this part that fall into the tolerance range. At that point of time the picker scans the unique identifier and confirms the actual quantity so this is correctly reported back to the end customer. Obviously it would be unmanageable to allocate and pick the exact quantities of each order, which makes this catch quantity process such an essential part for some specific kind of goods. The video we have posted here briefly shows how we solved this issue with the WMS of Blue Yonder for our customer Coulisse. If you are struggling with the same or want to know more, just reach out to catchmeifyoucan@starware.com and we would love to tell you all about it 💡
