How #climatechange worsens #heatwaves, #droughts, #wildfires and #floods 1. More extreme rain For every 1.0°C rise in average temperature, the atmosphere can hold about 7% more moisture. 2. Hotter, longer #heatwaves Even a small increase to average temperatures makes a big difference to heat extremes. 3. Longer #droughts #climatechange has made #droughts at least 100x more likely, according to the World Weather Attribution (WWA). 4. More fuel for #wildfires #climatechange is making the weather conditions needed for #wildfires to spread more likely, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). https://lnkd.in/es9x-py9 #climatecrisis #climateattribution

Natural hazards and climate change people talk a lot about cyclones, floods, droughts and bushfires but not so much about extreme heat. But it's one of the biggest killers of all. The Guardian is attempting to correct that in its climate coverage - and the screenshot alone is a little unnerving. https://lnkd.in/g7ewfivY #extremeheat #climatecrisis #globalheating #disastermanagement

It's a big question for a Wednesday afternoon: Is climate change causing more storms? The question came about from a recent article in The Guardian and here are our some of the facts and our thoughts from the Blue Patch Journal. International Day of Climate Action falls on the 24th of October every year to raise awareness of the pressing need to address climate change. 🌏 Climate action means one of two things: Firstly, reducing harmful emissions that cause this rapid rate of climate change. Secondly, improving our adaptation to the effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels, flooding and drought. 🌊 In our latest blog post we discuss sustainable ways we can manage this and how we can all do our bit. The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident as we witness the intensification of wildfires, hurricanes, and floods globally. The Park Fire in California, one of the top 10 largest in state history, continues to burn uncontrollably, fueled by recent extreme heat and drought. The IPCC Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports that climate change is increasing the frequency, intensity, and size of wildfires worldwide due to rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and prolonged droughts. As these wildfires spread, their impact on marginalized communities grows. Learn how I-DIEM is working globally to combat these climate impacts and promote disaster resilience. #ClimateChange #DisasterResilience #CaliforniaWildfires #ParkFire #DisasterEquity www.I-DIEM.org

We asked young people in #Wiltshire & #Swindon what they think are the best ways to stop our climate changing. 14 year old Sasha answered: "Planting more trees to prevent flooding" Our fifth priority in our manifesto for nature is to 'tackle the climate emergency' - part of this involves investing in #NatureBasedSolutions to reduce flooding. #climatechange #designimpacts Climate Change Is Killing Buildings in Slow Motion Climate change isn't just about storms and floods—it also includes wild temperature swings, extreme heat, and drought. These factors are taking an often unseen toll on our built environment. Infrastructure is being gradually damaged as weather patterns shift, no longer aligning with the conditions for which it was originally designed. https://lnkd.in/ddyEDc9V?
