Hugely important piece of work by Greenpeace UK. We are not doing enough to drive out unnecessary single use plastic investment in plastic recycling. With 45% of plastics being burned it contributes to carbon emissions and wastes valuable resources. Each tonne of plastic burned, produces 2 tonnes of waste CO2. The plastics recycling market is one driven by policy. And policy is stagnating. Developing policy that attracts investment in state of the art reprocessing and recycling infrastructure is essential if we are to transform our performance on plastics. There is a real opportunity here. To use EPR to stimulate investment, end plastic export and create jobs across the UK. We just need to seize it. Steve Reed Steve Barclay https://lnkd.in/esyfiDfU

Africa generated 19million tonnes of plastic waste in 2015, of this, 17 million tonnes (almost 90%) was mismanaged. At Eco Viridis our mission is to maximize resource value from waste, while minimizing - and even eliminating – its environmental impact on the environment through the process of recycling. Have a look at what we are doing to look after our planet

It’s clear: plastic poisons people. From fossil fuel extraction to plastic waste clogging ecosystems — and even as microplastics found in our bodies — the skyrocketing production of plastic is harming all life on our planet. 🏭 ➡️🥤We need a new way to think about plastic, and that's why a robust Global #PlasticsTreaty is necessary to regulate petrochemical production and guide countries toward a safer, cleaner future. We are currently at #INC4, the fourth round of the global plastics negotiations, encouraging our governments to take courageous action on a strong treaty that centers environmental justice and science, and doesn’t include false solutions. This important work wouldn’t be possible without your support. 🌱 Every donation — no matter the size ($5, $10, $25) — makes a difference in creating a plastic-free future: https://bit.ly/donatePE #EarthMonth #ClimateCrisis #NoPlanetB

𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐀 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 The Plastic Free Foundation, founded in 2011, has transformed its Plastic Free July initiative from a local Australian project into a worldwide environmental movement. Rebecca Prince-Ruiz OAM, the visionary founder of Plastic Free July, started the initiative in 2011 while working in local government in Western Australia. Her simple idea to refuse single-use plastic for a month has grown into a global movement, inspiring millions to reduce plastic waste and sparking lasting environmental change. Key impacts: 🔹Millions participate annually worldwide 🔹10 billion kgs of waste avoided in 5 years 🔹87% of participants develop lasting habits 🔹18 kg average waste reduction per person yearly 🏆 Global recognition: 🔹2022 UN SDG Action Awards finalist 🔹2022 Fremantle Business Award winner Campaign reach (2021 IPSOS survey): 🔹29% global awareness 🔹13% active participation among those aware From Prince-Ruiz's local government initiative to an independent charity in 2017, the Plastic Free Foundation now drives global change. It addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals, proving how a small idea can create massive impact. The foundation's success, guided by values like integrity and inclusivity, shows the power of collective action in creating a world free of plastic waste. 💧 #PlasticFreeJuly #SustainabilityChampion #EnvironmentalLeadership #WasteReduction #GlobalImpact GreenSignature

Garima Mishra, Chief Advisor, Alliance to End Plastic Waste joined us at our first #PRSI roundtable conference in Feb 2024. Highlighting the current status of plastic recycling in the country, she spoke about the root cause of mismanagement being the collection and disposal of waste. She emphasised on how Alliance to end Plastic Waste is more of a do-thank than a think-tank who provides on-ground solutions and also funds partners who aspire to do the same. Alliance to End Plastic Waste Plastic Waste is a global non-profit organisation that convenes more than 70 companies across the plastic value chain with local communities, civil society groups, intergovernmental organisations, and governments. Here’s what she had to say about our initiative to close the loop on circular economy. #prsi #circulareconomy #ongroundsolutions #plasticrecycling #recyclingsolutions #wastemanagement #india

The US Plastics Pact launched Roadmap 2.0 earlier this month — an ambitious plan to transform the way we use and manage plastics, with a focus of eliminating plastic waste. It centers on reusing, recycling, composting, and designing plastics that stay within the economy and out of the environment. One major accomplishment from the initial Roadmap, launched in 2020, was the decreased use of problematic materials in plastics from 14% to 8%. Now Roadmap 2.0 calls for eliminating plastics on the Problematic & Unnecessary Materials List by 2030 and a 30% reduction in virgin plastic use. Learn more about these efforts, and who is involved in this pre-competitive collaboration of companies, governments, nonprofits, and public-sector groups who dedicate their time, knowledge, and experience to our precompetitive collaboration. We are proud to be a Technical Affiliate of the US Plastics Pact. The Recycling Partnership | WWF | Ellen MacArthur Foundation #RoadmapTo2025 #RoadmapToCircularity #USPlasticsPact #Circularity
