2024 continued to be a turbulent year for #European #FinTech. Although #funding continued to decline, the sector is much more resilient, with some green shoots on the horizon - Finch Capital. 🔰 European FinTech continued to have a thriving mid-market M&A almost the same size as the US, but as one of Europe's largest sectors, it needs to prove it can consistently exit unicorns. 🔰 The UK dominates the European ecosystem even more now, with 65% of the funding landing in the UK. #financialservices #banking #digitalbanking #neobanks #challengerbanks #digitaldisruption #digitaltransformation #businessmodelinnovation Paidi O Reilly Prof. Dr. Ingrid Vasiliu-Feltes Martin Moeller Aaron Lax Richard Turrin Andrew Samu Birgul COTELLI, Ph. Where are we in the UK FinTech cycle? From its emergence as a market sector post-2010, to a significant run-up fueled by high margins, predictable models, and tech advancements. This resulted in stronger business models in the FinTech landscape and has led to the FinTech sector outperforming Global Tech since 2014. Many market participants thought this had created a bubble in this space. The sector's resilience emerges as weaker models are phased out, paving the path for robust value propositions. It was a pleasure to attend the FinTech North Leeds Conference 2024 yesterday, and to hear from such a passionate range of speakers on the rapidly growing sector. Here are some of my main takeaways from the day: 🔸London Bridge is falling down! - The UK has the 2nd biggest global Fintech market of £6.6bn (beaten only by the US) and it is becoming less London-centric by the day, with Northern cities like Leeds increasingly taking the reigns. 🏙🏭 🔸Diversity really is a driver of performance - Whitecap Consulting's recent report, 'Scaling UK Regional Fintech', found that firms with at least one female founder had 30% higher turnover growth than firms with male only founders. 📈 🔸CBDCs are (probably) coming - The current plans are to run them on a public-private model with the BoE at the core, and for the currency to supplement but not entirely replace cash. Contrary to popular belief, they won't limit spending choices, but they also won't be anonymous...💷💻 #FinTech #FinTechNorth #CBDC #Leeds

Thanks for sharing Anna Månson. Indeed an interesting discussion with Silje Nesvik, Christian Frahm, Junaid Baig and Andrew Murray on both fintech partnerships in general but also AI and how Fintechs can help Banks accelerate AI adoption. And not just to address the ever present efficiency agenda but perhaps more so also how to create real scalable growth through new customer value propositions. Also thanks to you Anna and the rest of the Danske Bank team attending and hosting our partners during this years Nordic Fintech Week. #unitedfintech #partnerships #GenAI #nfw24
From Unbundling of Banks to Bundling of Fintech Startups – is this the future of Fintech partnerships? Claus Harder, Danske Bank’s excellent Head of Transaction Banking &LC&I Business Development on stage at Nordic Fintech Week, talking about reimagining financial ecosystems.🍀 As the financial services industry evolves, the traditional question of whether to "Build, Buy, or Borrow" is giving way to a new paradigm: "Bundle for agility and speed." The panel discussed how financial institutions are increasingly partnering with fintech startups and collaborating with other market participants and industry neutral platforms to accelerate their digital transformation. By bundling their strengths, banks like Danske Bank, Citi, BNP Paribas etc are joining forces with platforms like United Fintech to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.🚀 Conclusion in yet another panel: ”Partnership model is here to stay!” as stated by great panelist Junaid Baig.🌱 Geetha Selvakumar Christian Hasse Kasper Uhd Jepsen Anders Nellemose Thomas Krogh Jensen Christian Frahm #danskebank #unitedfintech #partnerships #fintechs #beyondbanking #nfweek #nordicfintechweek #nfw24

Regional FinTech is a vital component of the UK’s financial industry and CFIT's success depends on the contributions of regional actors. To make the UK a global leader in financial innovation, it's essential to showcase regional excellence. FinTech North's two day-summit provides a valuable opportunity to connect and share ideas about the future of financial services in the UK. Look out for clips from our CEO, Ezechi Britton MBE's insights. CFIT, launched in Leeds, has always championed the Northern FinTech ecosystem, with our work on Open Finance beginning with industry-wide coalitions that pioneered use of Open Finance in Greater Manchester and North Tyneside. We need to embrace UK innovation across all regions if we are to maintain our position as a global leader. #NorthernFinTech #OpenFinance #EconomicCrime #NorthernFinTechSummit

FinTech deals are showing signs of recovery, with a notable increase in investment in UK FinTech during the first half of 2024. However, it is prudent to exercise caution and not celebrate prematurely. While the resurgence appears promising, experts advise against excessive optimism. The apparent rebound may be encouraging, but underlying challenges and uncertainties persist. It is essential to critically assess the long-term viability of this uptick in investment before drawing definitive conclusions about the sector’s overall health and stability. #FinTech #Investment #FutureOfFinance

In the last 2 years at least 100,000 UK Financial Services employees have been released into the market. That’s a huge bubble of knowledge capital and entrepreneurial spirit. If just 1% decided to start their own venture (staying in Financial Services), it would lead to a c.25% uplift in the number of companies in the UK FinTech ecosystem today. But the value of this community isn't about increasing the volume of new entrants. It represents a massive opportunity to increase the diversity of new founders and leaders in UK FinTech, and harness years of deep industry experience to drive the next wave of innovation in financial services. More needs to be done within the ecosystem to communicate with and galvanise this talent pool. #fintech #ukfintech #financialservices #innovation #diversity
